Fenwick Athletics IHSA Update
Fenwick High School believes strongly that the high school athletic experience is an extremely important component in the physical, emotional, mental, and social development of our kids.  We want all of our kids to have opportunities to compete as members of a team if it can be done safely and within the state guidelines.  The 2020-2021 school year has been extremely challenging in this regard.  We remain hopeful that all of our kids will have opportunities this school year.

Recently, our Region (Region 10) moved from Tier 3 to Tier 2.  In doing so, Fenwick has moved in a more favorable direction regarding the status of athletics.  Each sport is classified as high, medium, or low risk.  The level of risk and the current Tier of our region dictates the level of activity and competition allowed in each sport.  Currently, our low-level risk Winter sports (Cheer, Poms, Boys’ Swimming and Diving, and Bowling) can resume their athletic seasons.  We are still waiting on guidance from the IHSA on resuming competitions and are unsure when the seasons will conclude.  All other sports will be able to resume “contact days.”  In essence, a contact day is a practice following the guidelines laid out by the IDPH.  We are waiting on more information regarding season start dates, competitions, and end dates.

The IHSA has a Board meeting on January 27th.  This meeting should determine the status of all sports moving forward with more specifics regarding schedules as well as start dates and end dates.  We will have more information forthcoming after this meeting on January 27th.  Please use the links below to better understand the regions, tiers, and risk levels for each sport.  Our coaches will be reaching out to athletes in each sport regarding opportunities in their respective programs.  We have also included a coaches directory below if you have any questions.
