IMPORTANT REMINDERS: THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS & DC SELF-QUARANTINE REQUIREMENTS

The Center for Disease Control has released recommendations for families to consider when making plans to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please review these guidelines here before making your plans to celebrate or travel.

Friendly reminder: please review the DC self-quarantine requirements for non-essential travel that apply to all those attending work or school in DC.

Anyone entering Washington, DC from a high-risk state (within the prior 14 days) who was traveling for non-essential activities will be required to self-quarantine for a full 14 days after the day of return.

Please check https://coronavirus.dc.gov/phasetwo for the most updated list of 'hot spots'. We understand that this may impact your child's attendance in-person for the two weeks after Thanksgiving.

Please let your child's teacher and Susan Morais admin@olvschooldc.org know if your child will need to be fully virtual due to self-quarantine. We will do our best to arrange a non-contact materials pickup if needed.

Taking a COVID-19 test within this 14 day period is not a substitute for quarantining and will not exempt you from this requirement.

CHRISTMAS
OLV understands that families may wish to travel and/or host visitors over Christmas break.  In order to support the 14 day quarantine requirement in DC, OLV will be fully virtual from January 4th through January 15th.  In-person classes will resume Tuesday, January 19th.

If you intend to resume in-person classes on January 19th, please adhere to the quarantine requirement beginning January 4th.

Thank you for your support and cooperation as we work together to follow best practices and keep our community members as safe as possible.

Runners can run with their families where they like as far as they like each week and submit their total weekly miles to our Leaderboard.  This will allow everyone to get their miles in at their own pace without having to run in large groups at meets or practices.
You can now sign up the whole family!  All students, families and parishioners are welcome to participate. This will be a great way to stay fit and enjoy the beautiful weather this fall.

CYO TRAINING SESSION OLV STUDENTS GRADES 6 TO 8- AT OLV
The Fall CYO athletics programs have been cancelled due to the pandemic, but OLV athletic commissioners and coaches have been working with Mrs. Martinez and our own in-house medical experts to design a training program that complies with the school’s COVID safety precautions while providing an athletic outlet for the kids. The program we have designed would be for an hour on Saturdays in October for each designated group, consisting of training for soccer, basketball, and agility with OLV coaches/parents.  Saturday October 17th will be the first one.
We will be observing strict safety protocols for each session:
Each one-hour session will be limited to a single school color (Blue or White) for the 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  (So two co-ed sessions — one each with 6,7 and 8 Blue, 6, 7 and 8 white.)  For this weekend here is the schedule:
BLUE 6, 7 AND 8 ARE FROM 9:30AM TO 10:20 AM
WHITE 6, 7 AND 8 FROM 10:30AM TO 11:20 AM
-During each session, the different grades will be separated -  only one grade will occupy one of three stations at a time, and they will rotate at set intervals.
-During the workouts, children will be kept separated, and drills will not include physical contact.
-Masks will be required upon arrival and during any preliminary announcements. Children who want to wear a mask for all or part of the workouts may do so, but they will not be required during the actual training.
-We will urge kids to bring their own basketballs, and we will have hand sanitizer and/or sanitizing wipes for them before and after the basketball workout portion. (The other workouts will not involve touching balls or equipment with their hands.)
-All coaches will wear face coverings at all times. All coaches are Virtus compliant.
-Every family will be required to take temperatures before they leave the house and at check in verify they conducted a health check.
There will be no charge for this program, but we will ask all parents to register their children at https://reg.sportspilot.com/106582/leagues. The program will begin on Saturday, October 17th, and if all goes well we will continue weekly as long as the weather permits through October.  Each week there will be a separate announcement and REQUIRED REGISTRATION for EACH session so that we have an accurate number of participants.
We hope this will be a fun, stimulating program for the kids and that they can keep their skills and endurance from backsliding in this “lost season.” Nothing can take the place of actual competition and rigorous training, but at this time we are hoping to provide the next best thing that complies with our entire school community’s desire to keep the kids safe and the school open.
