First-Week SBA Children's Book Drive

This year during First Week, Bowen's SBA is collecting children's books (for ages 3-5) for the students at Booker T. Washington Elementary. Each book will also have a personalized note to the child encouraging them to continue their education and to read for fun. If you’d like to donate a book, please drop it off in the Alumni & Development Office (Bowen 207) no later than August 9.
Alumni Night at Dickey-Stephens Park, sponsored by Taylor & Taylor Law Firm, P.A.
On Sunday, July 21, Taylor & Taylor Law Firm (Andy Taylor, '05, and Tasha Taylor, '05) sponsored a night at the ballpark for their fellow Bowen alumni. After a picnic of burgers and hot dogs, the attendees watched the Arkansas Travelers take on the Frisco RoughRiders. Though the Travs lost a hard-fought game (1-0), everyone had a great time. See the photos.
Bowen's New 1L Class
This Saturday, August 10, Bowen will welcome over 160 first-year students. Their First Week experience will include learning more about life at Bowen, taking their first law school classes, getting to know their student success teams, and completing public service projects at Booker T. Washington Elementary.
On August 14, First Week ends with a pledge of professionalism and pinning ceremony, followed by the Dean's Reception in the Law Library at 5:45 p.m. All alumni are invited to attend the reception and meet the newest Bowen students.
Mentor a New Law Student
With the arrival of new students comes the need for professional mentors. The Professional Mentoring Program is an important part of our students' first year, and it is one of the opportunities they look forward to the most.
For those of you not familiar with the program, each incoming student is paired with a legal professional to serve as his or her mentor for the school year. Career Services works to pair mentors and mentees based on the student's area of interest. The mentor and mentee then work together to create a Personal and Professional Development Plan for the student, identifying goals and planning the types of experiences they hope to see through the mentoring program. The program carries an 8-hour requirement throughout the entire school year. We want this experience to be rewarding for both you and the students, not burdensome. At the outset of the program, a manual will be provided to give you more guidance on the program, and Diana B. Snyder, Assistant Dean for Career Services, is always available to assist in any way.

If you have questions, please email Dean Snyder or call 501-324-9934.
