PRESIDENT'S CABINET LETTER
Dear De La Salle Community:
One of the great things about working at De La Salle is you don’t have to look far to find inspiration. There is always something amazing going on in this community. All you have to do is continue reading this issue of the Spartan Spotlight to find a multitude of examples of all the major events that make this school a wonderful success.
It is worth noting, however, that inspiration doesn’t always come in the big moments and events that happen at our school. Sometimes it is the small moments that can have a profound effect. I was, again, reminded of this fact a few weeks ago as the inspiration for this letter happened to fall into my lap while I welcomed students to my third-period Biology class.

De La Salle is looking to bring some cheer to struggling families this Christmas by collecting toys for children within the Bay Area. Now in its 30th year, the De La Salle Toy Drive runs through December 15. This year, toys will be donated to Running with Love, Oakland Catholic Worker, De La Salle Academy, and Bay Area Crisis Nursery. Toys should be new, non-violent, unwrapped, and dropped off at the Hofmann Center. Alternatively, you can make a monetary donation through PayPal.

On Thursday, December 8 at 7 p.m., De La Salle and Carondelet High Schools will host "A Christmas Concert", the annual holiday concert for the two schools. Admission for this delightful event is free and features music from the jazz and concert bands as well as the choral and concert choirs.

There is so much to be thankful for and we are grateful that November was filled with so many opportunities to give thanks. During this month of December, our Church begins a new liturgical year as we enter into the season of Advent. Advent is a time of preparation for the amazing celebration of Christmas, a time when we reflect on how much God loves us by sending us His only Son (John 3:16). This is a month where we particularly walk with Mary, and recognize that this was a time of great hope for her as she prepared to give birth to Jesus.
Congratulations to all the seniors who have already submitted early college applications!
A HUGE THANK YOU to Mrs. Janet Appel who served as interim Co-Director of College Counseling from August 1-December 2. This is a crucial time in our seniors application process and she was essential in helping the Class of 2023 learn about all the various and complex steps to apply to college. She transitioned seamlessly back into co-teaching the College Advisory class, meeting individually with students, and supporting parents. We couldn’t have done it without her! Mrs. Lisa Sciacca returns on December 5th, as we close out the fall semester and begin planning for spring semester. We are excited to welcome her back.
