Games, Art, Drones & SciLit Workshops
Learning about new topics in education can be time consuming when you don’t know where to look or who to ask.  Implementing activities that increase student engagement, improve knowledge retention, and give students the opportunity to see real world application take time to plan and develop.  Don’t know who to ask? Don’t know what to plan? Challenger Learning Center’s professional development workshops answer these questions and more.
Attend one or more of these workshops to:
  • Gain content knowledge and understanding
  • Experience the activities first-hand and learn from others
  • Receive handouts and resources to easily implement activities in your classroom
Topics align with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.  Professional Development Workshop can be provided or on-site, at your school. Contact the CLC for more information. Click here to learn more about these workshops: Gamification & Art, Drones, and Science in Literature
Mission Pricing
Just as teachers work to keep curriculum and technology relevant in the classroom, staff at the Challenger Learning Center strive to do the same.  Over the past 15 years, the CLC has updated curriculum, provided teacher training, and implemented station activities and relevant mission storylines all while keeping mission costs at $600, or less.  For the 2018-19 school year, we are implementing a $50 increase for our K-12 school missions. Register by June 30, 2018 and receive the discount price of $525 (Fall) and $625 (Spring). Online registration can be found here.

Mission Scholarships

In order to best serve schools with the greatest need and impact as many students as possible, we are implementing a scholarship application window.  To be eligible for a  scholarship, teachers must register for mission(s), register for a teacher training workshop, and submit the online scholarship application by June 30, 2018.  Teachers will be notified in mid-August the scholarship amount.  Teachers who have already registered for 2018-19, do not need to register again. Teachers may select the Teacher Training Workshop of their choice when they complete the scholarship application.  Contact Stacey Shrewsbury with any questions. Scholarship application can be found here.

From the Desk of NASA
Please share this opportunity with your high school teachers.  Commander Stacey had the opportunity to experience a SOFIA flight in 2017.  It is a great opportuity to see hands-on application of concepts taught in the classroom.
The SETI Institute is seeking school district partners for participation in the NASA Science Mission Directorate's Airborne Astronomy Ambassador program that provides high school science teachers with content training, STEM immersion experiences including a flight on SOFIA (the world's largest flying observatory), and 3-D classroom lessons.
More information on the program, including eligibility and requirements, can be found in the overview and on the SETI Institute website. A sample of a district memorandum of understanding can also be found here. While this opportunity is meant for teachers, the initial MOU must be signed by a school district official. School districts should express interest via this form by early May and MOUs for 2019 programs will be signed by July. Contact Dr. Dana Backman and Coral Clark with questions.
