Dear Wagner Students,
I hope the semester is off to a smooth start and that you're getting settled into your courses! I’ve enjoyed feeling the energy of our community brightening our new space—hosting events, gathering for meetings, and lounging along the 17th Street windows.
Here are this month’s happenings and highlights:
Highlights
- Lauren Kunis (MPA 2007), CEO and executive director of VoteRiders, was named one of TIME’s Democracy Defenders, recognizing 11 individuals striving to bolster voter participation, advocate for voting rights, and educate against misinformation.
- NYU Alumni Changemakers awards recognize entrepreneurs whose accomplishments are helping to build a better world. Alvin Irby (MPA 2015) is among this year’s honorees for his work as founder and executive director of Barbershop Books, a nonprofit organization that provides children’s books to neighborhood barbershops to promote youth literacy.
- Ignacio Aravena (MUP 2020) was awarded a Chilean Congress Merit Medal for his work in assisting in the passage of a law that will streamline the building permit process in Chile, a significant step in reducing delays in creating new housing.
- Associate Professor Salo Coslovsky helped to bring Brazilian environmental leaders to campus for a pair of Climate Week events focused on the critical state of the Amazon rainforest.
