Inside The Spartan Spotlight
| |
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As I reflected on what to say in my Easter Letter for this year, I came across the following from a church bulletin from a few years back. I believe the message has a lot of new meaning for us, especially with what has transpired this past year...
New life is God’s gift to us at Easter. Bringing new life to others is what God asks for us. We give new life when we carry out our work with care and attention, when we choose what we know is right, even when others seem to be choosing the opposite. ...Continue Reading

LETTER FROM THE VP FOR ACADEMIC LIFE
| |
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Friends of De La Salle,
Before our faculty, staff, and administrators began Easter break, we were able to convene as a community on Wednesday 3/31 for our annual Faculty/Staff Holy Week retreat. This year Campus Ministry provided an ingenious format that allowed us to convene in small groups to practice the theme for the day: “Creating and Celebrating the Mosaic that Shows Us the Face of God.” The activities, which were led by many of our peers, included a “Nature Activity as Prayer and Reflection;” “Art as Prayer;” “Bread Blessed, Broken, and Shared;” and multiple service activities. Thank you to the Campus Ministry team for creating innovative ways for our hard-working faculty and staff to come together in prayer and community.
You received this week an update from the De La Salle President’s Cabinet that includes detailed information about any Request to be Considered for Group 4 Status (four days per week on campus). On March 19th and March 20th, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) respectively updated their recommendations for classroom spacing. As a result, we will be able to move more desks and tables into our classrooms, which means we will also be able to welcome more students on campus four days a week. Please read the letter fully and please fill out the Request to be Considered for Group 4 Status Form only if you want your son to join this group no later than Monday, April 12th. These changes will take effect on Monday, April 19th. We also want to call your attention to the fact that Contra Costa County Health (CCCH) updated its website on 3/30 to announce that it has opened vaccine eligibility to 16+. ... Continue Reading

“Dig deep enough into any human being and you will find something divine.” - Saint Augustine in Grateful Living by Dale Turner
- We had a very successful Junior Retreat where students were able to really connect with one another by “Taking a Stand” on the values that are important to them, and see where they stand in relation to their peers. The day ended with peer affirmations and personal commitment to building class unity.
- April will be a packed month for Campus Ministry. Our last two retreats of the year, Kairos 132 and Kairos 133 will take place during the last two weeks of April. They will be held at St. Bonaventure Church in Concord. At least 13 Juniors will participate in Kairos 133 in preparation of potentially being Kairos Student Leaders at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.
- MMM Wednesday returns to De La Salle on April 14th (virtually) with reflection, song and virtual donuts.
- On Saturday, April 24th, faculty, staff, and alumni will participate in DeLaServe Community Service Day, collecting food for the Monument Crisis Center.
- Towards the end of April, we will celebrate with a Liturgy, our Founder, St. John Baptiste De La Salle, thanks to whom there are now hundreds of Lasallian schools, colleges and universities throughout the world, educating the young through deep, meaningful, compassionate, and long-lasting relationships.

The Parent Association is a group of current De La Salle parents who work on behalf of students, faculty, and staff to support events and volunteer needs.
Recent Happenings: The De La Salle Class of 2022 had its Junior Ring Ceremony on February 28th. They had a virtual Mass, then a drive-thru pickup of their rings and a cookie from Danville Bakery. Thank you to Noel Hughes for organizing and delivering the cookies to the school.
The Parent Association and De La Salle community recognized our faculty and staff on March 2nd, by gifting them a cheese box from Danville Cheese and wine from Due Vigne Winery. Our faculty and staff have been working extremely hard for our boys and we were so excited to finally show our gratitude! A big thank you to Kris Earle and Noel Hughes for organizing.
The Senior Mother Son Brunch took place on March 6th with a virtual Mass and at the conclusion, moms and seniors drove to school to pick up their brunch for two. Brunch was packed in a De La Salle tote, accompanied with a keepsake cloth napkin and a special gift for mom. Moms and sons were invited to sit at a decorated table in the Quad to enjoy their brunch together. The brunch also allowed for mother and son to take a special keepsake photograph by Studio One Photography. We would like to thank Wendy Aliotti for the delicious menu, Alison McNell for the totes/cloth napkins, Candi Mannoni for the mother’s gifts, and Laura Flannigan for organizing this special event. Laura could not have pulled this event off without her helpers: Veronica Blanco, Leilani Caldera, Wendy Chriss, Amber Hom-Tooze, Ellen Knapic, Tami Lightle, Jen Mucha, Valerie Nagel, and Renee Sitzman.
Our Volunteer Chairs, Amber Hom-Tooze and Angela Lombardi, were extremely busy organizing the Adopt-A-Senior, which took place in late March. Many hours were spent making sure 100% of the Class of 2021 was adopted. It was a wonderful way to show our seniors how much we are proud of them. Many “Thank You’s” need to be showered upon Amber and Angela for their dedication and running such a successful event.
We would also like to thank Sweet Affair Bakery for their generous donation of cookies for the Senior Treats that will take place in April and May. Thank you to Jennifer Baker for organizing and Candi Mannoni for the special delivery for the Class of 2021.
