The recent Wings Conference was a great success, featuring Dean Joseph Bull as a main stage speaker, moving the crowd with this talk on the potential for the fields of engineering and computer science to be positively influenced by adopting Indigenous ways of knowing and interacting with the world at large.

Maseeh students took a field trip to Intel focusing on the exposure/workforce development side. Both the Intel team and the students thought that this was one of their more useful visits so we hope to make this a regular event with more students next time.

Maseeh faculty, including Linnea Spitzer (Education Specialist) and Don Duncan (ECE), travelled to China and met with new internationally recruited faculty members in Nanjing as part of our international programs.

Fang Song (CS) was named the 2024 recipient of the PSU Early Career Research Award. This award reflects the significant impact of his research contributions on the intersection of cryptography, quantum computing and theoretical computer science. His research has been funded by multiple NSF grants (including an NSF Early Career award in 2020), and a SONY Faculty Innovation Award.

Raúl Bayoán Cal (MME) was named the 2024 Maseeh College Researcher of the Year. His area of research is focused on understanding fluid flow phenomena as it relates to physical systems such as turbulence, with emphasis placed on physics related of wall-bounded, free-shear and multi-phase flows as well as wind/solar energy, and capillary microfluidics with interests in both terrestrial and space applications.

Warren Harrison was named a 2023 IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor.

Kudos to Thomas Schumacher for his recent Service Award for Outstanding Leadership from the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

- Yao Li (CS) received $174,966 from National Science Foundation (NSF) for “CRII: SHF: Embedding Techniques for Mechanized Reasoning About Existing Programs”
- Bob Bass (ECE) received $181,664 from Portland General Electric Company (Prime DoE) for “Demonstration of Grid Services by a 380 MW Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage Combined Power Plant with Mixed Grid-Forming and Grid-Following Technologies”
