Grace Hopper Celebration
Hello GHC 19 Scholar,
The 2019 Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC 19) is just a few months away and we know you have a lot of questions! These newsletters will keep you informed about GHC 19 and your scholarship. Be sure to read them carefully and take any required actions immediately. We also encourage you to bookmark the GHC 19 FAQ page and get into the habit of checking those FAQs for answers to your questions.
Flights
Flight bookings are now open, read this welcome letter from the AnitaB.org contracted partner, Corporate Traveler! All scholars MUST book flights with Corporate Traveler. Do not book your flights yourself.
Fill Out The Travel Request Form
  • If you book your flight yourself and don’t use Corporate Traveler, you will not be reimbursed for this expense.
  • If you have any questions regarding your travel, please contact Corporate Traveler at: GHC19@corporatetraveler.us.
  • All Scholars must stay for the full Celebration. Plan to arrive in Orlando on Tuesday, October 1 and depart on Saturday, October 5.This will allow you to take advantage of all of the GHC 19 events, including the famous Evening Celebration on Friday night!
  • Can you book your flight to arrive prior to GHC or stay a few days after GHC? Yes! AnitaB.org is happy to accommodate these requests, if there is no additional expense associated them. You are required to be in Orlando October 1-5, but we understand you may want to take advantage of all that Orlando has to offer. Any excess costs associated with your extended stay will be at your own expense.
Transportation To/From the Airport
Shuttles: You can pre-arrange Super Shuttle (approximately $25 each way), or get a taxi/Lyft. Last year, many scholars arranged to share a taxi/Lyft with one another to keep costs down.
Hotels
AnitaB.org provides hotel rooms to all scholars. If you decline to use the AnitaB.org provided hotel, you will not be reimbursed for this expense and must make your own arrangements.
  • Scholars will be able to check-in to the hotel on Tuesday, October 1 and check-out Saturday, October 5. If you need hotel accommodations before or after those dates, you must book the additional nights on your own. The scholarship program cannot do this for you.
  • Most student scholars will be assigned a roommate, unless you are bringing a child with you or have indicated a specific need on the stage 2 application.
  • Scholars will stay at the Rosen Centre Hotel, within easy walking distance to the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC).
  • Roommate assignments (student scholars only) will be sent in mid-September. We do not take roommate requests.
Registration
You will be registered to attend GHC by AnitaB.org. You will receive a confirmation email by mid-July.
Meal and Travel Stipend
Upon arrival at GHC 19, Scholars will receive a stipend card as part of their scholarship. There will be a Scholar Check-In desk at Registration where you will be able to pick up information you will need at the Celebration.
  • What is the purpose of the stipend card? You may use the funds to cover costs associated with travel to GHC and home from GHC, such as baggage fees, taxi/Lyft/shuttle costs, meals during travel, and visa fees for international scholars.
  • If you lose your stipend card, you will not be given a new one.
Events for GHC Scholars
The GHC Scholarship Networking Event will be held on Wednesday, October 2 at 5 p.m. ET. This event is not mandatory, but we highly recommend you attend as this is the only event that will bring the 950 scholars together in one room at GHC 19! Come network with other scholars and eat some hors d’oeuvres.

Resume Database
The GHC 19 Resume Database is available now. This is a great way to boost visibility and gain exposure as sponsors will start receiving access to the resumes in August.
Engage with Your Community of Scholars
  • If you have not already joined the Scholars Facebook group, we recommend doing so as you will be able to meet other scholars prior to GHC 19. Additionally, that is the first place we update with new information for GHC Scholars.
  • You can communicate with one another on WhatsApp. This is an unofficial chat group and joining is not mandatory, but it’s a good way to communicate with your peers in real-time. We invite you to engage/network/build this community!
If you have any additional questions, you can email GHCScholarshipContact@AnitaB.org.

Warm Regards,
