Critical Language Scholarship Info Session
Tuesday, September 25 from 4-5 p.m., University Hall Executive Conference Center 1857
The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.

The CLS Program is part of a U.S. government effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical foreign languages. Students of diverse disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply. Participants are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period, and later apply their critical language skills in their future professional careers. Available languages include:
Offered at all levels (Beginning, Advanced Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced)
  • Azerbaijani, Bangla, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Swahili, Turkish, & Urdu
Requires at least one academic year of prior target language study or the equivalent (Advanced Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced)
  • Arabic, Persian, & Portuguese
Requires at least two academic years of prior target language study or the equivalent (Intermediate and Advanced only):
  • Chinese, Japanese, & Russia
LMU undergrad & graduate students* are invited to learn more about these fully-funded summer scholarships, including eligibility requirements and application timelines. Open to U.S. citizens and there is no minimum GPA requirement.

*Students graduating in Spring 2019 may be eligible to apply.

All or Multiple Disciplines
VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship- Deadline: October 12. In keeping with VFW's commitment to student veterans' success, the VFW is once again teaming up with Student Veterans of America (SVA) to host the 2019 VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship program, providing 10 exemplary student veterans the opportunity to make their voices heard on Capitol Hill and in their community. Candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Submission of an essay proposal based on one of four priority issues for the veterans' community
  • VFW membership eligibility
  • Current enrollment at a college or university with an active SVA chapter
  • Preference for students studying political science, government, law, journalism, history or a related field

College of Business Administration
The Risk Management Association Foundation Scholarship Program- Deadline: October 21. Students in an undergraduate program who are interested in working in the banking industry after graduation may apply for an RMA Foundation scholarship. The Risk Management Association Foundation offers scholarships to students in an undergraduate program who are interested in working in the banking industry after graduation. The RMA Foundation is awarding over $200,000 annually in scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $8,000. Winners may reapply for continuation of their scholarships for up to two additional years, provided each student fulfills the renewal requirements and maintains their free student membership with RMA. 

Frank R. Seaver College of Science & Engineering
The Hertz Graduate Fellowship- Deadline: October 24. The Hertz Foundation Fellowship application is now open for students seeking PhDs in the applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics and engineering. This merit (not need) award and consists of a cost-of-education allowance and a personal-support stipend. In addition to providing the necessary funding along with the research freedom to pursue their PhD, we also provide mentorship and counsel through the lifelong community of peers to which they now belong—the Hertz Community. This Community is comprised of current in-school Fellows who are pursuing their graduate degree, as well as the entire group of alumni Fellows (now totaling over 1,200). When Hertz Fellows complete graduate school, we intend that they do so armed with more than their degree, research experience, and colleagues from that university, but also with a set of collaborators across disciplines, geography, and generations, all ready to help them succeed throughout their careers.

School of Film & Television
Women in Animation (WIA) Scholarship- Deadline: September 30! The new Women In Animation Scholarship will expand that commitment further, with the annual award going from one scholarship to five deserving animation students who demonstrate artistic talent, a passion for animation, and promise for the future. Each scholarship award provides $1000 per recipient. WIA renews its early organizational commitment to supporting the next generation with this new Women In Animation Scholarship Program.

College Television Awards Competition- Deadline: October 19. The 39th College Television Awards competition has evolved and features redefined categories, new deadlines and an immersive industry experience in Los Angeles. College Television nominees and winners will become part of the Television Academy Foundation’s alumni family and have the opportunity to participate in year-round networking opportunities and events.
