In a story you'll first read here, on September 12, Richard Miles will join as General Manager of Purdue University's WBAA(AM)/W290CM (920am, West Lafayette; 105.9fm, Lafayette) and WBAA-FM (101.3fm; West Lafayette). Mr. Miles currently serves as VP of Interactive Media and Content Strategy for Metropolitan Indianapolis Public Broadcasting's N-T/WFYI-FM (90.1fm, Indianapolis) and PBS affiliate/WFYI-TV (Channel 20, Indianapolis). Before joining WFYI, Mr. Miles worked for Butler University then-WAJC-FM and then-WTBU-TV. He also worked for then-WTPI ("Dave Mitchell") and for WFMS ("Rick Douglas").

A week ago, police arrested Entercom's CHR/WZPL (99.5fm, Greenfield) afternoon host Zach Babb ("Zakk On Air") after he crashed his SUV into another vehicle driven by an Indianapolis chef and restaurateur. Nexstar's CW affiliate/WISH-TV (Channel 8, Indianapolis) Noon and early evening anchor David Barras will retire on December 1, after 37 years with the TV station. Mr. Barras joined the WISH-TV in 1980 as a weekend assignment editor and reporter.
Where Are They Now? Former WISH-TV meteorologist Robb Ellis recently exited WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Ellis recently did some freelance work at both WRTV-TV (Channel 6, Indianapolis) and WCIA-TV in Chapaign, Illinois. Mr. Ellis announced on Facebook that he will soon join WBBM-TV in Chicago, Illinois.
Southeast
Richard Brabandt sells his Oldies/WOCC (1550am, Corydon) for $115,000 to Two Hawks Communications (Dawn Fowler and Timothy Jackson). The sale doesn't include WOCC's FM translator W274AD (102.7fm, Corydon). That's owned by Keith Reising. WOCC runs 250 watts during the day and only 6 watts at night.

Over the weekend, IRW read an article which detailed WNIN Tri-State Public Media's NPR affiliate WNIN-FM (88.3fm, Evansville) updates to their newsroom, including a bilingual podcast and diversification efforts.

Sign-on dates seem to be a prickly matter, subject to great debate, and mostly impossible to confirm. If there's something we need to add to the "calendar," please let us know. Please e-mail us if you have updated information.
August 13: In 1953, 106.3fm in Crawfordsville signed on as WBBS. Today, it's WCDQ. In 1979, WIFE(AM) (1310am, Indianapolis) flips format from Top 40 to Soft AC. In 1994, WKMD (94.3fm, Loogootee) moves to 94.1fm.
August 14: In 2015, WWFW (103.9fm, Fort Wayne) changed their format from Soft AC to AC.
August 15: In 2000, then-WZZQ (107.5fm, Terre Haute) changed their format from Rock to Alternative ("107.5 The Edge.")
August 16: In 1963, 91.3fm in Carmel signs on as WHJE ("High school, Junior high, Elementary") signs on (and it still is).
August 17: In 1991, 102.5fm, then licensed to Mitchell, signs on as WOTS. Today, it's WPHZ (102.5fm, Orleans). In 2005, the WBCL Radio Network adds translator W249BT (97.7fm, Adrian, Michigan).
August 18: In 1948, 1590am in Indianapolis signed on as WXLW. WXLW moved to their current 950am frequency in January 1955. In 1964, 1050am in Plymouth signs on as WTCA (and still is). In 1965, 104.9fm in Fairfield, Illinois signs on as WFIW-FM (and still is). In 2003, 89.3fm in Linton signs on as WYTJ ("Will You Trust Jesus") (and still is).
August 19: In 1906, Serena Farnsworth gave birth to a son: Philo Taylor. In 1998, WRZR-FM in Loogootee moves from 94.1fm to 94.5fm.

Radio Producer

Department: Farm Journal Broadcasting
Reports to: Director of Radio Operations
Summary:
Seeking experienced radio producer for two live network broadcasts daily. The radio producer will be responsible for the technical production of Farm Journal Radio live broadcasts as well as production of custom audio for Farm Journal websites, clients and internal promotion.
Key Responsibilities:
These duties include, but are not limited to, the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)
* Daily technical production of 2 live radio shows
* Manage automation logs of 2 live radio shows
* Manage production of various recorded audio including show promos, market reports, custom audio for affiliates and clients, custom in-house audio, etc.
* Edit audio highlights from broadcasts to use on Farm Journal websites.
* Travel to produce live broadcasts from industry events
* Assist with booking guests
* Coordinate travel logistics
Education/Skills/Professional Experience:
These qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
* 1 to 3 years of radio production experience
* Bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism preferred
* Expertise with Adobe Audition, Pro Tools or similar audio editing suite
* Strong written and communication skills
* Must have a strong attention to detail and decision making skills
* Must be able to meet deadlines
* Knowledge of the Agricultural Industry is a plus
