Today marks the first day of Recovery Month, and I want to light a spark inside of you.
Start by reflecting on all you’ve accomplished in Recovery - finding hope over desperation, courage over fear, serenity over uncertainty, and connection over isolation. You are here and your journey is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
Think about how you continue this journey every day, confronting even the most trying situations through the lens of recovery. On your darkest days, you choose Recovery, making the conscious decision not to return to the depths of where addiction had taken you.
This incredible venture is not one you're accomplishing alone. The binding thread that holds us together is our connection to each other; our shared sense of community. Even in the face of a global pandemic, our unmatched alliance of love, inspiration, and support carried us through, making us even more resilient than before.
Through Recovery Month and beyond, I challenge you to channel your Recovery into advocating for those who continue to struggle with substance use disorder. There are many ways to honor your recovery and share it with others.
Here are some inspirations and resources to get you started:
- Read this blog by Caron alumna Jacqueline M., who shares how life in recovery has carried her through the pandemic.
- Watch Rev. Jack Abel's lecture on "Servanthood" during Caron’s Chapel Service on August 8th.
- Plan to participate in Recovery Month events - check out some that Caron staff will be attending in the coming weeks.
- Sign up for our daily inspirational text messages by texting CARON to 33777.
- Stay connected to Caron on social media through Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
As the nation honors, celebrates, and advocates for Recovery throughout September, remember how far you've come and how impactful our collective voice could be in changing and saving another person's life.
