Fuel for the Journey

One of the best ways to start up a new year is to fuel up. I often think of prayer as “fuel for the journey”. Prayer in many ways is the fuel that keeps the engine of life going, which reminds me of a lesson I learned from my father that I’ll never forget.

Transcripts, Second Semester Schedules, and More

Please check your email for important information including a copy of your student's transcript, their second-semester schedule, and PSAT scores (if applicable).

Second Semester Schedule Changes

Students may submit a course change request form until 12:00 pm on Friday, January 10 after which schedule changes will no longer be made. Students should attend all classes regardless of submitting a change request. Use this form to submit changes, in written form, beginning January 7. The counseling department is unable to accept change requests via email.

Taste of Discovery February 9

Taste of Discovery is right around the corner! This exciting social event takes guests on a culinary trip around the world all to benefit this year's Discovery students and teams. You'll enjoy food samplings from more than a dozen live kitchens, plus a silent auction. Watch for ticket sales starting soon!

Restaurant Connections: Discovery is currently contacting restaurants to provide food for the event. Do you have a connection with a local chef or restaurant? If so, we would love to chat with you! Please contact Jennifer Gribble by email or at 303-471-3387.
Donate an Auction Item: Do you have an item you'd like to donate to the Taste of Discovery silent auction? Fill out this form and bring that item to the Discovery office by February 4. Thank you for your generosity!

New Service Hour Process

Discovery has changed the process for service hour submissions, and will now be utilizing an app for all service hour sign-ups and submissions. Students will be receiving instructions and login information this week, but before then they should download the Helper Helper app from the App Store or Google Play. Check out the tutorial for a peek into the Helper Helper app.

Preview the opportunities for Spring Practicum, March 23-27. Applications will open in mid-January.

Senior Parent Breakfast

Senior Parents, come enjoy a hot breakfast and attend this important meeting on Tuesday, January 14 from 7:00 - 8:15 am in the Valor Commons. Instructions and details for the upcoming Senior Retreat will be communicated, along with other details regarding the Spring semester.

Attendees will have the opportunity to win premium seating at Commencement! You must be present to win. At least one parent of each Senior is requested to attend, please RSVP no later than Tuesday, January 7 for this free event

Junior Family College Night

Save the date for the annual Junior Family College Night for all juniors and their parents on Wednesday, January 22 from 6:30-8:30 pm. This night kicks off the official college application season and will provide critical information regarding the next 12 months for juniors. It is expected that all juniors and at least one parent or guardian attend.

Sophomore ICP Meetings

If you were unable to schedule your sophomore college planning meeting prior to the end of 2019, please watch for another email from your Academic and College Counselor with options to schedule this ICP in the coming weeks.

Parent Art Gallery Tour

The Valor Arts Guild invites all parents to the Western Stock Show for a private Curator's tour of the Coors Western Art Show on January 21. Those interested in carpooling will meet at Valor at 9:00 am, and the tour begins at 10:15 am with lunch afterward. Entrance tickets are $12 (Lunch is not included in the entrance price). Please contact Nancy Columbia with questions.
