Join our Train-the-Trainer session on Saturday, June 27 @ 10:45 AM for Response Time Matters in Early Cancer Detection and gain practical skills you can bring back to your department right away. With 86% of cancers not found through recommended screenings, recognizing warning signs early can make all the difference.
We'll dive into DetecTogether’s 3 Steps Detect® to help first responders recognize warning signs, take action sooner, and overcome barriers. You’ll leave with the first half of the training complete and a clear path to finish virtually—equipping you with the tools to train your entire department.

5 Common Actions Cancer Survivors Share |
At DetecTogether, we have heard similar stories again and again from survivors across ages, backgrounds, careers, and cancer types. While every cancer journey is different, many survivors share common actions and behaviors that helped lead to earlier diagnosis and lifesaving outcomes. These patterns are not about luck.

National Cancer Survivors Day on June 7th reminds us that survival often begins long before a test or diagnosis. In our latest blog, we explore the 5 evidence-based behaviors many survivors have in common—and why early detection is about far more than screenings alone.

Myth Buster: No Family History Means No Risk |
Fact: 90-95% people diagnosed with cancer don't have a family history of that cancer. While family history can increase cancer risk, most people diagnosed with cancer do not have an inherited genetic link to the disease. That's why knowing your body, recognizing health changes, and taking early action is important for everyone—not just those with a family history.
Most cancers are considered sporadic, developing due to a combination of aging, environmental exposures, lifestyle factors, and random genetic changes over time rather than family history alone.
| |
Bottom line: No family history doesn't mean no risk, but it does mean that using 3 Steps Detect® can help you detect cancer earlier—when treatment is often more effective, and lives can be saved.
DetecTogether is redefining the role firefighters play in early cancer detection and saving lives.

AI Is Changing Early Detection—But Should You Trust It?
Check out our Instagram post on how AI may change how cancer is detected — but it doesn't change one critical truth: early detection still depends on people recognizing concerns and taking action.
See why technology is only part of the early detection equation.

Why Men Need to Understand BRCA2 Gene Mutation Too |
"I did not realize BRCA2 was important for men to understand too and that it can lead to a higher risk for many cancers."
Many people, like Trey, think the BRCA2 gene mutation only matters for women, but men can inherit the gene mutation too, raising their risk for several cancers.
Read Trey's story to learn why understanding your family history could be an important step you take for your health.
