In Memoriam: Professor Emeritus Dr. William S. Vorus
|
The University community mourns the death of professor emeritus and former chair of the Bollinger School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Dr. William Vorus, who passed away at the age of 83. He spent 18 years as a faculty member at UNO, including 11 years as department chair. Dr. Vorus was one of the leading authorities in the field of planing watercraft, and he published extensively on the topic in journals. He held numerous engineering patents and was the author of three books. Prior to his retirement in 2010 he received the William H. Webb Medal for outstanding educational contributions.

| Fall Cap Day: A Graduation Tradition
|
Former College of Engineering Dean Russell Trahan started the tradition of giving UNO engineer caps to the college's graduating students. These caps have come to be a symbol of accomplishment for our alumni and one of their most prized possessions from UNO.
We continued that tradition on Dec. 7 for our Fall 2023 graduating class.

UNO celebrated commencement on Friday, Dec. 8 at the UNO Lakefront Arena. Hundreds of family and friends packed the arena to see their loved ones cross the stage and receive their degree.
The Dr. Robert A Savoie College of Engineering celebrates our 74 graduates. We congratulate them all and encourage them to keep us apprised of all their post-UNO accomplishments!

Privateer Athletics sponsored Education Day on Dec. 18. This event brings in lots of local middle school students to attend a Privateer Women’s Basketball game and for a fun and engaging experiential learning project.

Alumni Spotlight: NAME Alumnus Capt. David Grogan '99
|
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering alumnus Captain David Grogan (left in photo) was recently appointed as Commodore over the Regional Support Group (RSG) and Naval Submarine Support Facility (NSSF) in Groton, Conn.! Grogan has previously served as commanding officer on several US nuclear submarines. We congratulate Captain Grogan and thank him for his extraordinary service to our country!
