February is the month when we celebrate Valentine's Day with heart-shaped sugar cookies, assorted chocolates, bouquets of red roses, and candlelight dinners. Valentine's Day is so vital that some might say, "Without Valentine's Day, February would be... well, January" (American comedian, Jim Gaffigan).
Putting the romance and humor aside, the Utah Down Syndrome Foundation (UDSF) would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Valentine's Day. Since 1977, the UDSF has been providing community programs that love, lift, and launch individuals with Down syndrome and their families. The following are the programs that UDSF currently offers:
To learn more about these programs, please visit "Navigating Down Syndrome" or "Programs" at udsf.org. Some of these programs are simple, and some are more involved, but their purpose is to offer you hope, education and support so that you feel loved and not alone. Mother Teressa described love as, "Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great Love."  Happy Valentine's Day, from UDSF!
February's "Love.Lift.Launch." highlight features the Mountain West Ballet (MWB). This ballet company is based out of Sandy, Utah and not only provides opportunities for dancers from over 26 dance schools, colleges, and universities but it also includes dancers of all abilities. This past December our very own 8-year-old Sara Lutkin performed in MWB's annual Nutcracker where over 150 members of the UDSF community were there to cheer her on (see news report below).
In addition to supporting dancers with Down syndrome, the MWB supports their families and the community as well. Every year, the MWB invites the UDSF community to attend their productions at no charge. UDSF is grateful to the MWB for helping to "Love.Lift.Launch" individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the community through the beauty of ballet.
