The Season of Lent is quickly approaching which means Easter will be here soon! This will be our third Lent and Easter season of the Pandemic. We have lost much, learned much, and just wish it was all a distant memory. However, it is not…not yet. The seasons of our life and our faith continue and they call us to step into new rhythms. Lent is a season of spiritual preparation, of clearing away the clutter, of letting go, of practicing spiritual disciplines so that when we reach the mystery of resurrection morning we are ready to meet Christ. We dive into Lent with our Ash Wednesday service at 6 pm March 2. This will be a service of scripture, song, prayer, and the imposition of the ashes. We will be invited into the season of Lent, into a season of spiritual disciplines. We will live stream this service as well as offer drive thru ashes immediately following the service until 7:45 pm.
Maybe the spiritual discipline we all need this Lent is to reconnect with one another. In our personal lives we have missed milestones, trips and family gatherings. Within our life of faith we have missed worship, study, and fellowship. We have missed one another. We yearn for community. As Christians, we believe in an incarnational theology. Our God became flesh and walked among us. Jesus created intentional community, participated in the worship life of his faith tradition, shared table with anyone and everyone, healed and fed and forgave. Jesus practiced an embodied faith and we have felt the loss of this embodied faith. This Lent may we all remember, celebrate and practice an embodied faith. Each Sunday in Lent we will lift a story of Jesus and reflect on what Jesus has to teach us about practicing an embodied faith. During each week of Lent, we invite you to find your own way to practice an embodied faith. We will give you some ideas (be on the lookout for a mailing next week!), but feel free to listen to how and where and in what way the Spirit is calling you. We know Covid is still very much a reality so everyone must make their own health decisions to remain safe. No matter how you choose to walk through this season, we ALL walk it together. May we observe a Holy Lent. May we practice an embodied faith.
