TDSB Welcomes Integrity Commissioner 
TDSB Integrity Commissioner Suzanne Craig began her appointment on April 4, 2016. Serving the Board of Trustees, the Integrity Commissioner will provide advice, and conduct inquiries and complaint resolution in an independent manner. The TDSB is the first school board in Ontario to appoint an Integrity Commissioner. Learn more.
TDSB Mourns the Loss of Trustee Howard Kaplan
The TDSB community is profoundly saddened by the loss of Trustee Howard Kaplan.
Howard was first elected in 2010 as the Trustee for Ward 5, York-Centre. From early years programming to special education, Howard was passionate about the public school system and was a strong advocate for equity in education.

Out thoughts and condolences are with Howard’s family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time. In the coming days, we will be looking at how best to celebrate Howard’s life.

TDSB Budget 2016-17
On March 24, The Ministry of Education announced the 2016-17 Grants for Student Needs. Trustees will vote on the TDSB’s Proposed Balanced Budget Plan for 2016-17 at the Board meeting on April 20, 2016. 

By-election Called for Ward 14
A by-election has been called for the Trustee position in Ward 14 (Toronto Centre-Rosedale) as a result of former Trustee Sheila Wards recent passing.
The by-election will be held on June 20, 2016 to fill this vacancy. Learn more about the by-election on the city of Toronto website.

Learning Centres to Support Schools and Communities
 The TDSB will be creating four new Learning Centres that will improve the Board’s responsiveness to schools, teachers and parents. Our vision is that Canada’s largest school system can act and feel local when our schools are well-supported and highly responsive and when our parents and communities are more connected. Learn more
TDSB Graduation Rates at All-Time High
TDSB recently announced that the Board's latest graduation rate of 85% marks an all-time high. Graduation rates have increased by 16% since 2000 when the TDSB began tracking them. Learn more.
TDSB Sets New Transparency Standard by Posting Director’s Contract
The TDSB is one of the first school boards in Ontario to post the Director of Education’s employment agreement with the Board on the it’s website. “I believe we need to identify opportunities that promote greater transparency, openness and accountability,” said Director of Education John Malloy. Ministry Math Announcement
The Ministry of Education recently announced that it will invest $60 million to help improve student achievement in math across the province. Read the Ministry's news release

BOARD MEETING NOTES

School Year Calendar 2016-17
The Board approved the 2016-17 School Year Calendar. It now requires approval from the Ministry of Education before it is finalized. View the proposed 2016-17 School Year Calendar.
Student Transportation Audit Findings
Trustees received findings from the province-wide audit of student transportation which makes recommendations for making the system more effective and efficient. To read the report, visit our website and select "Audit Committee - Jan 18, 2016" from the dropdown menu. Then click on "6. Student Transportation Audit Findings [2723]."
TDSB Marks First Sikh Heritage Month
In a unanimous vote the Board of Trustees made the TDSB the first Ontario school board to officially recognize Sikh Heritage Month in April. Beginning this year, students, staff and community members will recognize the history, culture and contributions of the Sikh community in our schools and across the city. Learn more
Pupil Accommodation and Program Review Policy Updated
The Board has revised its Pupil Accommodation and Program Review Policy to align with the Ministry’s new Pupil Accommodation Review Guideline, March 2015. To see the Board’s revised policy, visit our website and select "Policy Review Committee – Feb 23, 2016" from the dropdown menu. Then, click on "Revisions to Policies, P068, Accommodation and Program Review" where the revisions are highlighted.
