Free This Year: Family Fright Night and the Haunted Trail

Date: Friday, Oct. 23
Time: 4-8 p.m. (Haunted Trail 6-8 p.m.)
Location: Dakota Lodge and Bradford Park

Through a successful partnership with the Ken-Caryl Community Network (KCCN) and community sponsors, we are excited to be able to offer the Family Fright Night and Haunted Trail as a free community event this year! This two-part event starts with the Family Fright Night at Dakota Lodge at 4 p.m. We will have spooky games, costume contests, and Halloween crafts for kids of all ages. This part of the event is perfect for your younger goblins who may not be interested in the Haunted Trail. Starting at 5:45 p.m., you can take the shuttle bus from Dakota Lodge up to Bradford Park for the Haunted Trail. The Haunted Trail is a not-so-spooky hike around the red rocks where families meet some local wildlife and learn about safety in the open space. As you hike around the trail, you will trick-or-treat for trail mix so be sure to come in costume. The Haunted Trail ends with hot chocolate, cider and s’mores by the campfire (fire conditions permitting). See more event details on our Special Events page. We would like to thank Crystal Hodge with Sotheby’s International Realty, Mike Schmisek with Farmers Insurance, Atlas Coffees, Tiffany’s Fabulous Books, Belmar Smiles, Supercuts, Home Depot, and the Botanic Gardens at Chatfield for their support! We still have sponsorship opportunities available. Please contact Melissa Daruna at melissad@kcranch.org for more details.

Time to Apply for a Master Association Committee for 2016

Committees are an important part of the administration of the Master Association. A committee is on-going and serves to advise the Board, and in specific tasks, act on behalf of the Board. Current committees are Architectural, Community Planning, Covenant, Election, Finance, Historical Society and Open Space. Committee descriptions can be found on the Committees & Task Forces page. All current and prospective committee members must apply for committee membership using the Committee Application. If you wish to apply for membership to multiple committees, please submit a separate form for each committee. The deadline for application is 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6. Forms should be submitted to Victoria DeSair at victoriad@kcranch.org, faxed to 303-972-1272 or dropped off at the Ranch House.

West Metro Training Near Bradford-Perley House

The Master Association Board has authorized West Metro Fire to do some Wildland Urban Interface Training out by the Bradford-Perley House. They will be laying hose, setting up temporary tanks and pumps, and doing some other training exercises. The first session was Oct. 11, and there will also be sessions on Oct. 21 and 25 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day.

Trash & Recycling Service Survey

Don't forget to take the trash and recycling survey! For the new service contract starting next year, Waste Connections provided three options for service: to continue the status quo (weekly trash and recycling service using your own containers), to provide totes (as shown in the picture) at no charge to all residents for both trash and recycling on a weekly schedule, and a third option where they would provide totes and collect trash each week but go to an every other week recycling service. The totes are 96-gallons, 42 inches tall, the top measures 30×34 inches, and the bottom is 24×24. There will also be an option to sign up for composting (see Composting Flyer for information) for an additional fee for those who are interested. We would like your opinion on these services. Please take a moment to answer our two-question Trash & Recycling Survey regarding all of these options. Note: you can only take the survey one time.

New Dues Payment Options in 2016; Coupon Books No Longer Automatically Provided

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association is looking forward to a change in our dues collection process beginning in 2016. Many of you (almost 80 percent) pay your dues electronically without using a paper coupon. So in an effort to keep up with our paperless society, effective Jan. 1, 2016, we will no longer be automatically providing paper coupons. However, if you would like to receive a monthly invoice, we can email one to you each month. If you would like to sign up to receive an invoice, please send a message with your name, address and email address to Annette Chavez at annettec@kcranch.org. Your email address will be kept confidential and used only for KCRMA business. If you would still like to receive a paper coupon book for 2016 we can order one for you for a fee of $5. You can download a Coupon Book Order Form or call Annette at 303-979-1876, ext. 112. Our website also lists all of the ways to pay your dues electronically.

Fire Restrictions Lifted

As of Oct. 6, the Jefferson County Sheriff lifted the temporary fire restriction order for all areas of unincorporated Jefferson County, which includes all of Ken-Caryl Ranch. The current and predicted weather conditions have reduced the danger of wildfire. However, people are encouraged to be vigilant as the danger of fire is always present in the high country. The Sheriff will continue to closely monitor the fire danger in the county and make appropriate adjustments to reduce the risk of human-caused fires in Jeffco.

Dakota Lodge Park Renovation Open House Oct. 21

In conjunction with the scheduled Dakota Lodge Bond Projects, the KCRMD staff is working on a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Grant application. If successful, the goal is to be able to provide more environmental education opportunities for all ages throughout the park at Dakota Lodge. Draft plans have been developed. We would like to hear from the community so please come view the park plans at the Open House on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Ranch House and provide feedback.
