| Stargazing at the KU Field Station
7:30-9:30pm | KU Field Station Armitage Education Center
Join the Astronomy Associates of Lawrence and explore the wonders of the night sky. The moon will not be visible on this evening, and we will be on the lookout for Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and the countless stars and constellations visible beyond the light pollution of town. Telescopes will be set up on the lawn just behind the Armitage Education Center, with easy access to warmth indoors. Participants are welcome to drop by anytime during the scheduled hours. The fireplace will be on, and hot drinks will be provided.

The Robert Bruce Thompson Annual Student Light Fixture Design Competition
An independent student design competition for the purpose of promoting education and awareness of light fixture design.
Bruce Thompson was a twenty-five year veteran of the lighting industry. He had a broad background in the profession having worked in theatre, retail, as a factory representative, and concluding his career in manufacturing as vice president of sales and marketing. Throughout his career Bruce emphasized design and innovation. He was also an accomplished light fixture designer. He established this independent competition to encourage creativity and education in light fixture design and manufacturing.
Online submissions must be received no later than March 27, 2025 at 6PM EDT/3PM PDT.

🔶 20th Century Pattern Design: Textile & Wallpaper Pioneers
Pattern design flourished throughout the 20th century. From Art Nouveau at the end of the 19th century to computer-generated digital images at the turn of the Millennium, each new generation had their own distinctive approach to pattern design. Tracing the creative cross-fertilization between fashion and interiors, this invaluable book provides a chronological account of the development of pattern design. Highlighting the decisive trends that emerged in each decade, the book draws attention to the achievements of progressive manufacturers and ground-breaking designers, charting the emergence of a series of pattern design superpowers in various countries at different moments in time.
