Safe Return to School

Many staff members spent time during our recent Professional Development Day learning the many safety protocols that must be taken for students who opted to return to school. Teachers also spent time preparing for face to face instruction. Among the things families should know:
Families should conduct a self-screener checklist before sending children to school
Any child not feeling well should remain at home, and all children not feeling well during school will be sent home, especially if they have a fever.
Students in grades K-8 must wear a face mask on buses and in the classroom throughout the day, except when eating and drinking. Children in Pre-K are recommended to wear a face mask
Children must bring their own labeled, filled water bottles. Extra water will be provided if needed and milk will be served with breakfast and lunch.  Water fountains will not be operational.
Students will remain in the same classroom throughout the day.

An in-house instructional video called The Safe Return to School is being produced and will be shared with families soon.

More About Keeping Students Safe

The “new normal” for students and staff will mean following safety guidelines developed by state and district health advisors. We ask all parents who are sending students to school to complete the self-screener for students each morning BEFORE leaving home. This link will take you to the required screening process: http://www.colonialschooldistrict.org/blog/self-screening-for-students/

Attendance is a MUST!

The Colonial School Board voted on measures to ensure that our students are attending both virtual and in-person classes. Khayree Bey- A Winner in Colonial Nation

On Tuesday, October 13th a small watch party was held for Colonial’s Teacher of the Year, Khayree Bey. The event, sponsored by the Department of Education, named one State Teacher of the Year. While Bey didn’t win the top honor, he remains top in our District as he continues to put students first, and works hard to ensure that racial equity remains a priority for all. Special thanks to Fletcher’s Kitchen for providing delicious contactless meals, and Joyce’s Sweet Treats for dessert-individually wrapped cupcakes in Colonial Nation colors. It was a great, safe, event!

Make Your Choice

Tuesday, October 27th, is Choice Night-- an opportunity for families to choose which school they’d like their child to attend outside of their feeder school. This informational session will be held from 6:00-7:00 PM by accessing our website at www.colonialschooldistrict.org.  There will be a question and answer session following the presentation. The Choice window this year runs from November 2, 2020, to January 13, 2021.
