My participation in the Executive Hiring Roundtable at this year’s Women Leaders in Sports National Convention, hosted by the NCAA and Women Leaders in Sports was exhilarating. Connecting with so many talented women in sports administration and exchanging ideas about leadership, career growth, and the challenges we navigate together was truly inspiring.
Sharing my insights on hiring best practices was both rewarding and reflective. It reminded me that building an effective leadership team goes beyond qualifications—it is about finding individuals with passion, resilience, and a sense of purpose. These are some of the qualities I value most when selecting leaders who will help shape the future of our institutions.

This month, I had the pleasure of attending the official inauguration of the 2024-2025 Student Government Association (SGA) leaders. These students have stepped up to serve, representing the voices, ideas, and dreams of our vibrant student body. Their dedication reflects the true spirit of Coppin—one rooted in leadership, excellence, and community.
This year’s inauguration was especially significant as we celebrated a historic milestone: the induction of Coppin’s first Hispanic SGA President, Mellany Morales.
To our new SGA leaders—congratulations again! I look forward to seeing how your passion and commitment will elevate Coppin State University to new heights. Lead boldly and inspire others along the way.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
| |
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to the impact of domestic violence and to support survivors in our community. At Coppin State University, we are committed to raising awareness, fostering discussions, and standing in solidarity with those affected by domestic abuse and intimate partner violence.
Our theme is “Be Safe. Be Alert. Love Shouldn’t Hurt.” Throughout the month, Coppin State will host a series of events designed to educate, support, empower, and inspire action. These events will provide resources, share stories of resilience, and offer ways for everyone to get involved in preventing domestic violence. We encourage all students to participate, engage in these important conversations, and learn how to be advocates for change.
Let us stand together to end dating and domestic violence and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
If you or someone you know needs help, immediate and confidential support is available 24/7 through the National Domestic Violence Hotline. Visit thehotline.org, call 1-800-799-7233 (TTY 1-800-787-3224), or text “START” to 88788.
