September 8: International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day was created by the UN to inform the global community about the importance of literacy. Thank you for your commitment to literacy for all people in our community.
You can celebrate this day by continuing to support LVCA's mission by donating your time, finances, resources (more information below).

Citizenship Update

Sancha and his tutor, Dick
Citizenship classes have just kicked off our 12-week fall session. We have seen our citizenship program continue to thrive, with 50 students signed up for classes. Our online classes cover Civics, N-400, and interview practice. The online format allows students who might not have been able to participate the opportunity to do so. In the fiscal year 2021, 16 of our students passed their naturalization interviews, and our students are off and running this fiscal year with 8 additional students passing in the last two months. We are impressed with the work students have put in and the tangible results.

Fall New Tutor Training Dates

In September, we will continue to offer new tutor training online via Zoom. Volunteers who complete the training virtually can choose to tutor students in-person, online, or using a combination of methods.
Our student waitlist is growing, and we'd love to train new volunteers to help meet the needs of the adults who come to us for assistance. Becoming a volunteer tutor will enable you to make a profound difference in a person's life.
Our next training sessions:
September
  • Wednesdays, 6:00–8:00 p.m.
  • September 8, 15, and 22
October
  • Tuesdays, 10-12 p.m.
  • October 12, 19, 26

FY21 Overview

This last fiscal year looked very different but our mission remained the same. We are grateful for the resilience of our students, tutors, and supporters.
