Bring your friends or special someone for a night out this February 14."

The curtains are down and the lines are being inspected on our 120-year-old wooden grid and hemp-house rigging system. Being one of the few theaters in the U.S. still using this traditional style of stage rigging, we do a complete tear down and safety inspection of all components every two years. This includes going through every single rope by hand, looking for any imperfections that would pose a safety hazard. Other inspections of theatrical and building systems that will take place over the coming twelve months include inspections of our sprinkler system, our fire extinguishers, and our ADA elevator for the stage, as well as regular inspections by the Great Barrington Fire Department. The safety of our artists, patrons, and historic treasure are always top of mind.

“Raise the Roof!” Thanks to the Prospect Hill Foundation, Jane & Jack Fitzpatrick Trust, and donors at our 2023 Gala, we raised $150,000 to match a grant from MCC’s Cultural Facilities Fund. These monies will go towards a two-year, $500,000 roof restoration project starting later this year.

The Mahaiwe also received a first-time grant from Avangrid, the parent company of Berkshire Gas to support Education and Family Programs.

The Mahaiwe is proud to display transparency badges awarded by Candid and Charity Navigator. These seals attest to best practices by nonprofit organizations with regard to ethics, trust, leadership, mission, and more.
