Student Spotlight

WILLA SASSO '16
Loves about Brebeuf:
My favorite thing about Brebeuf is the religious aspect. Brebeuf is a school where the population is not all catholic, which offers me a new insight compared to other catholic schools. I was able to go see the Pope this past September and it was an amazing experience that I was able to do through my school which made it unique. I was able to see everything we talk about in school that applies to the world through the Pope.
Favorite Class:
My favorite class this year is Calculus with Mr. Kelaghan because the class has challenged me more than previous math classes and I like the way Mr. Kelaghan teaches. Overall, during my time at Brebeuf, my favorite class has been Biology with Mrs. Hatfield because I really enjoyed the class, the labs, and the teacher.
Future Plans:
I’m going to Indiana University next fall where I’m planning to study biology. I knew I wanted to stay in-state and IU has a lot of opportunities for me as a larger school. I’m not sure about my career, but I do want to move in the direction of medical school. I’m open to all opportunities at IU and I'm also interested in getting involved in student government in college.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:

Tennis Team
Cross Country
On-Campus Ministry
Student Council
Conservation Club
Orchestra (Viola)
Advance Science Research Class
Volunteer Retreat Leader for Fatima Retreat House
Random Fact:
I have an older sister and a younger sister, and people think we are triplets.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
I think Brebeuf is academically rigorous because there are a bunch of opportunities to take high level classes and you are able to challenge yourself as much as you want. Many of the teachers push you to try your hardest and make sure you are in the proper classes for challenging yourself. For example, as a Freshman I took Algebra 1 and a lot of teachers helped push me forward to double up in classes. Mr. Franklin helped me see that I could do more and advance myself through the math program. I was able to double up for three years, take a summer class, and now be in calculus. Brebeuf is as challenging as you make it for yourself.
Would you rather…
Would you rather be Batman or Superman?
I would rather be Superman because he doesn’t wear a mask and I would not want to wear one.
Have a pet unicorn or pet dragon?
I would rather have a pet dragon because in the movie Shrek the dragon is so nice and protective.
Travel to see the US sights by RV or helicopter?
I would rather travel by RV because you could easily make stops that weren’t planned in the beginning and be more spontaneous.
Would you rather spend one year sailing around the world or living in the heart of London?
I would rather sail for a year because I love the ocean (I’m Scuba certified) and I would rather experience multiple cultures than just one.
Would you rather have your own action-figure/doll or a popular YouTube video?
I would rather have an action-figure because it would look like me and I could easily give it to friends and acquaintances.

College Counseling News

The Coolidge Scholars Program
The Coolidge Scholarship, administered by the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation, is among the most generous in America. Two Weeks Remain for the #BrebeufFoodDrive

There are two weeks left for the Brebeuf Food Drive. St. Vincent DePaul will send their trucks to pick up donations the morning of Holy Thursday, March 24. St. Vincent DePaul feeds over 3000 households per week from the food pantry so every donation helps.

As of last Friday, at the halfway point of the drive, the homeroom class leaders were Beck, Mayer, and Graham. Homeroom classes with the most donations at the conclusion of the drive will receive a pizza party. It’s still a close race, so keep the donations coming and support St. Vincent DePaul.

Remember: Here is How to Help

To contribute to the drive, send any canned food items to Brebeuf Jesuit with a Brebeuf student, who will deliver the items to their homeroom collection. To contribute monetarily (Make checks out to: St. Vincent de Paul, memo: Food Pantry), bring donations of support to the front lobby desk at Brebeuf Jesuit.
By coming together during this food drive, the entire Brebeuf Jesuit community can make an incredible difference in the lives of thousands in need here in Indianapolis! Let’s bring in those cans to your student’s homeroom and support St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry.
