As many of you are aware, Fr. Michael Christiana, S.J. was diagnosed with myelofibrosis leukemia this past spring. The best possible course of action is a bone marrow transplant. While Fr. Michael will be receiving marrow from his sister, a local student at Park Tudor, Eibhlin is searching for a match. Will you Be The Match?
The bone marrow drive will take place at Brebeuf Jesuit on Friday, August 28.

Student Spotlight

ISABELLE (IZZY) HACKETT '17
Loves about Brebeuf:
My favorite thing about Brebeuf is the people. Each student, teacher, and faculty member is so different and unique, which makes us such a strong community filled with new ideas and different opinions. Every time a new student comes to Brebeuf they have the potential to learn and grow so much, which is such a wonderful thing to me.
Favorite Class:
My favorite class here at Brebeuf is my choir class. I have been in choir ever since I was a freshman, and it has been such a fantastic experience. I love to sing, and being able to learn about new and old music while sitting next to some of my best friends is just so great. I also love my new choir teacher, Mr. Tippel!
Future Plans:
After Brebeuf I plan on going into the field of entertainment. I love film and video and music, so the entertainment field seems like the perfect place for me. My dream job would be to become the producer of "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon."
Teams & Co-Curriculars:
Varsity Dance Team & Girls Lacrosse
Choir
Musicals (inside school and outside)
Math Club
Do Something Club
Guatemalan Union
Admissions Ambassador
Presidential Ambassador
Mayor’s Youth Council
United Way Youth Organization
Marion County Commission on Youth Board Member
Random Fact:
I’m a vegetarian. I became a vegan after watching a film in Brebeuf’s health class that literally scared me into giving up meat.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
I would say that Brebeuf is extremely rigorous academically. I came from a school where I was in all of the most rigorous classes they had, and I never felt very challenged. Coming to Brebeuf I struggled with having to work hard to receive the grades I have, but I would say it was and is most definetely worth the work.
When I was in freshman English class we had Word Within a Word quizzes every Friday, and for the longest time I believed that I could get a good grade on these quizzes by simply studying the list of words 10 minutes before my class, but that didn't exactly work. For weeks I was getting Cs and Ds on these quizzes because I kept thinking that I could use the same amount of effort as I did in middle school and still get good grades. Once I realized how much these quizzes were affecting my grade, I had to work my butt off to get the grade I wanted and I still wasn't exactly where I wanted to be by the end of the semester.
Who is your hero?
My parents are my biggest heroes. My mom is the most amazing woman I have ever met; she helps thousands of people in Indiana a year and never once asks for a thank you. My dad is also so very amazing. He is so kind, funny, and smart, and I have no idea what I would do without him. They do everything for me and I love them more than the world.

PE Credit for Athletic Participation

The Indiana State Board of Education has provided flexibility to adapt the high school Physical Education requirement for students to meet the state standards.  Brebeuf Jesuit allows students to earn one credit of their PE requirement by participating in an IHSAA-sanctioned sport.
All students must still earn one credit of their PE requirement by taking either the traditional PE course either during the summer, or during the school year.
Students who wish to complete a PE credit through athletic participation must first register by submitting the online form. A message will be sent tomorrow, Friday, August 14, to all freshman and sophomore families with a link to register.
The deadline for registration credit through a fall sport is Friday, August 28.
If you have any questions, please contact Amy Pitcher at apitcher@brebeuf.org.
