Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was great to see so many of you at Back to School Night last month! We are off and running for a new school year. A number of you have asked for a copy of the prayer that I used that night – I have attached it to the end of my letter.
I know raising children and working with them can be a challenge. This prayer is a wonderful way in which we ask for God’s Blessing to guide us.
In the Spirit of Saint John Baptist de La Salle,
Mark DeMarco
President

On October 25, the Visual and Performing Arts department is hosting One Night Only.
This event is specifically for middle-school male students who have an interest in De La Salle. It is an interactive workshop where prospective students rotate between Visual Art, Music, and Theatre.
PARENTS: While the students are participating in the art rotations, you are welcome to either drop off your son or stay and learn more about the school from Dr. Alumbaugh our Vice President for Academic Life; Parent Association President Cathy Avila; and a recent DLS graduate who starred in Macbeth this past spring!
| |
We invite De La Salle and Carondelet parents and guardians to this special screening of Angst, a documentary about teenage anxiety.
| |
“We choose this movie because – as well-documented in research and in our own surveys of our students – teenagers experience high levels of stress and anxiety, due to multiple and competing causes,” explained Dr. Heather Alumbaugh. “Our work with Stanford University’s Challenge Success program underscores the need to offer educational opportunities for students and their families to seek and find balance.”

Exciting things are happening at the De La Salle Library! While the desktops are gone, there are two new Smartboards and three new collaborative hubs.

No surprise here. September was a very busy month! Between Club Faire, Cereal Drive, Kairos 108 and 109, Lasallian Prayers for Peace, the Sophomore Family Liturgy and Brunch, and the Senior College Parent Information Night, this place was full of options for both students and parents. October will no doubt be a rival.

In case you missed it, our Athletics Department launched its own app - DLS Spartans!
After months of development with partner REPu, the app is one that players, parents, and fans across the country will enjoy. De La Salle is one of only a handful of high schools in the country that is able to offer an app like this to fans.
Similar to collegiate and professional athletic apps, DLS Spartans will allow fans to bookmark their favorite teams and receive updates through push notifications.

At De La Salle, our students come first. Therefore, the first priority of the school should complement our Mission, serving all students and the every year operational needs of the school. We do this through the fundraising efforts of the Annual Fund, which is vital to the financial health, growth, and future of the school.

Connecting history with today through Lasallian tradition September 29 (the date of this newsletter's publication) marks the Feast of the Archangels: Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. In one of his writings, Saint John Baptist de La Salle penned, "Children need good teachers, like visible angels" (Meditation 197). We are blessed with a faculty and staff dedicated to supporting and guiding our students. Echoing the prayer Mr. DeMarco shared earlier in this letter, we pray to have "all the virtues we need to lead our sons and daughters by word and example in the path of righteousness."
