| Mubu’s Family-friendly Summer Costume Party
Whether a princess, super hero or favorite character, kids can dress up and have some fun at Mubu’s Summer Costume Party on Saturday, July 16, at the Museum of disABILITY History, 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. The event, from 10 a.m. to noon, will include prizes for creative costumes, crafts, snacks and book readings. Plus, meet some members of the Superhero Alliance of WNY and get your photo taken with them! The event is a great opportunity to learn about Mubu the Morph, a fun book series about self-confidence, for children grades K to 3.
The book series is created and written by Stephen Nawotniak and illustrated by Jeffrey Scott Perdziak. Both of Clarence, they partnered with our Museum to teach kids about exploration, purpose and tolerance.

| Film and Speaker Series to Debut Six Guys, 6,000 Miles
Save the date for the exclusive premiere of a film about a cross-country road trip that changed six guys for a lifetime! Our Museum of disABILITY History Film and Speaker Series will debut the documentary, Six Guys, 6,000 Miles, on Friday, August 12, at The Screening Room, 3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst. There will be two showings at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m., with a reception at 5 p.m. Our event’s goal is to educate viewers, offer different perspectives, challenge stereotypes and celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities.
We are proud to feature Six Guys, 6,000 Miles, a film documenting a one-of-a-kind cross-country trip by four participants in People Inc.’s Guys Group, a social group for young men with developmental disabilities, and two life quality coaches. In June 2015, they embarked on a journey from Buffalo, NY to the west coast, for an experiential learning trip. It may seem like an average trip, but it couldn’t be further from ordinary.

| Visit “In Celebration of Down Syndrome” Exhibit
You’re invited to visit our “In Celebration of Down Syndrome” exhibit! We think you will be pleasantly surprised with the vibrant multimedia displays and hope you’ll learn something new! The exhibit recognizes individuals who have Down syndrome as it explores medical history, myths and facts, as well as success stories and popular culture.
We are excited to share that one of the actors featured within the exhibit saw it first-hand! While in town for the Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day conference last month, Megan Bomgaars and her mom Kris, visited the Museum. They star in Born This Way, a reality show on A&E that follows seven young adults who have Down syndrome. The exhibit includes a cast photo from the show. To view photos from their visit, click here.
“In Celebration of Down Syndrome” is supported by a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities and a donation from the Down Syndrome Parents Group of Western New York. Cemetery Restoration Presentation
“Grave Matters,” a presentation about documenting and preserving your historic cemetery, by the Western New York Association of Historical Agencies, will be held on July 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The morning session will take place at the Museum of disABILITY History, 3826 Main Street, Buffalo, and includes presentations on legal issues, documentation and landscaping. The afternoon session is in Williamsville Cemetery, 5402 Main Street, Williamsville, and includes techniques for raising, repairing, setting and cleaning stones.
