| MD Board Planning for Bond Sale this FallThe Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District (KCRMD) Board of Directors is moving forward with a planned sale of $7.9 million in municipal bonds for this coming fall. On May 6, voters authorized the KCRMD to issue up to $7.9 million in municipal bonds for improvements to facilities and landscaping in the Ken-Caryl Ranch community. It appears likely at this time the KCRMD bond sale will take place in early October at which time the entire $7.9 million will be available for project funding. As part of the bond sale process, the KCRMD Board is planning on offering bonds to Ken-Caryl residents in advance of the public sale. Bonds could be purchased by residents in increments of $5,000 with interest earnings exempt from both federal and State of Colorado income tax. Interest rates for the bonds will be determined at the time of the bond closing in October. Residents who might be interested in purchasing bonds during the advance purchase period may provide their contact information to District Manager Darrell Windes at darrellw@kcranch.org to be placed on a list to be notified when the details of the sale are known.

Ranger Ernie Retiring from KC RanchRanger Ernie Stone has provided Environmental Education programming for the youth of Ken-Caryl Ranch since 1997. She is retiring this month, and her duties will be passed on to Gabrielle Hesselius, who has been working with Ranger Ernie for the past six months learning the ins and outs of the Environmental Education Ranger U program, now called KC Nature. We would like to thank Ranger Ernie for all of her hard work and dedication over the past 17 years. The whole community is invited to say farewell to her at an Open House Retirement Party on Thursday, Aug. 14 from 4:30-7 p.m. at Dakota Lodge.

| Street Sign Replacement Project
You may have noticed the new street signs that have been installed in many Ken-Caryl neighborhoods. The plan is to replace all of the signs by late summer or early fall. The Master Association has hired a contractor to install the Valley signs, and the installation of those signs is nearing completion. The signs in the Plains (east of C-470) are being replaced by the Metro District's Parks crew, and they will be working on that task as time permits for the remainder of the summer and early fall.

"Rabbit Fever" Found in South JeffcoDue to positive tests in rabbits for tularemia this year in south Jefferson County, Jefferson County Public Health continues to recommend the public take precautions while enjoying outdoor recreation. Tularemia is a disease of animals and humans caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis. It is also called "rabbit fever," and rabbits, hares, beavers and rodents are especially susceptible. Humans can also be infected with the bacteria, which is treatable with appropriate antibiotics. Please follow these basic safety precautions to avoid exposure to animal-borne diseases: do not handle sick or dead animals; instruct children to leave wildlife alone; keep pets on leash and do not allow them to disturb sick or dead animals; wash hands thoroughly following recreation on trails; use protective clothing and insect repellents to avoid deerfly and tick bites; and conduct frequent checks for ticks. For details and symptoms of tularemia, see the Jeffco Health website. If you find a dead rabbit on your property, please contact Animal Control at 303-271-5070.
