CABINET LETTER FROM DAVID HOLQUIN

Dear De La Salle Community:
In schools, we sometimes use the phrase 'thousand days of May'. This idiom expresses what I have often said about education: we cram into nine months what should take twelve, and May accounts for at least three of those months. From year-end banquets and concerts to last-minute moments for redemption and graduation, our students and staff are very busy right now. And so are our parents!
In this context, Easter may seem like a distant memory, and perhaps that's why the Church has us celebrate for 50 days. We need the opportunity to be continually reminded that we are an Easter people, not a Good Friday people. Even after darkness and struggle, light and hope always prevail. We recently experienced the passing of Track and Field Head Coach John Harvey and our Holy Father, Pope Francis. Both men are examples of hope in their way.

During Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week (May 5-9), let’s show our incredible De La Salle teachers and staff how much we value them! You’re invited to participate in our De La Salle Lunch Box Event, a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and collectively treat our dedicated teachers and staff. A $15.00 donation will contribute to a delicious lunch box from the locally loved A Sweet Affair Bakery/Cafe for a DLS teacher and staff member. Our goal is to provide a lunch for every member, so please consider purchasing at least one, or perhaps enough to thank all of your son’s caring community. Our DLS staff will enjoy their special lunch on Thursday, May 8. Click this link to participate.
The next Parent Association meeting is Monday, May 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the De La Salle Library. All parents are welcome to attend!
