Dear PI Colleagues:
I know many of you are concerned and uncertain about the vaccine and masking mandate announced a few weeks ago by the federal government.
At present, this mandate applies to federal contracts and cooperative agreements. It has not been applied to regular grants and does not apply to non-federal sponsored research. The mandate is applied piecemeal to contracts and agreements, either when there is a change (renewal, NCE, additional funds) or when a particular agency reaches out about a specific agreement. The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) has been given permission to agree to the new stipulations, and Legal Affairs has developed a process for bringing each affected research group into compliance. OSP is notifying PIs when one of their contracts or agreements has been impacted and is giving those PIs instructions about what they need to do.
If OSP has not reached out to you, you are not (or not yet) affected. You do not need to do anything. If you receive notification and you have questions, please reach out to your associate dean for research (ADR) who can work with Legal Affairs and OSP to get answers.
