Be Here! Help Public School Students Thrive with Strong Attendance and a Sense of Belonging
When students feel like they belong at school and show up every day, they’re more likely to stay on track, succeed academically, and build lifelong confidence. Missing just two days a month can make it harder for a kindergartener to learn to read, a middle schooler to stay engaged, or a high schooler to graduate ready for what’s next.
Vibrant schools are the heart of a thriving city and economy. That’s why we’re proud to support the Be Here! campaign, as it brings together City departments, SFUSD, students, families, businesses, and community leaders to send a united message:
Be Here! Because school is where students grow, connect, and thrive.
Learn more, join the Be Here! Social Media ShareOut campaign, access family resources, and find out how you can support student attendance at the Be Here! website.

| Help Shape the Future of San Francisco Government
Here's some San Francisco trivia: the City & County government includes nearly 150 advisory boards and commissions!
Prop E, approved by the voters last November, created a task force to review the City's advisory boards and commissions and make recommendations to the Mayor and Board of Supervisors about opportunities to modify, consolidate, or eliminate them.
|
|
|
The Commission Streamlining Task Force is meeting now through the end of the year to develop these recommendations, and they want your feedback.
Here’s what to know:
-
The task force meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 1pm in City Hall, Room 408. Meetings are open to the public, and streamed live on WebEx.
-
You can learn when the task force will review and make recommendations on each advisory board or commission by going to the task force’s website and clicking on the ‘Planned Decision Calendar’ in the Resources section.
-
Submit written public comment to the task force by emailing Streamlining@sfgov.org prior to the meeting. Comments will be posted on the task force’s website with contact information redacted. You can also give public comment live during the meeting, either in-person or on WebEx.
For meeting information and other resources, visit the Commission Streamlining Task Force page on the SFGov website.

| Happy Hatchday, Claude!
September 15 is Claude the albino alligator's 30th birthday/hatchday! We're sure we're not alone in believing this occasion needs to be recognized as an official holiday in San Francisco (ahem, Mayor Lurie!).
One day is not nearly enough to celebrate three decades of the City's favorite gator: the California Academy of Sciences and other partners are honoring Claude's 30 years with 30 days of giveaways, special events, and more.
While most of the Claude commemorations will happen in September, our friends at the SF Public Library have something special coming up later this fall: they will issue the first-ever albino alligator-themed library card, featuring a beauty shot of Claude!

Land Acknowledgement Statement
The San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF) acknowledges that it carries out its work on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone, the original inhabitants and stewards of the San Francisco Peninsula. As the government agency that stewards the Children and Youth Fund, we accept the responsibility that comes with resources derived from property taxes upon unceded and colonized land. We recognize the history and legacy of the Ramaytush Ohlone as integral to how we strive to make San Francisco a great place for life to thrive and children to grow up.
