Summer planting blockbusters
Don't forget to cast these juicy superstars
We concede that the biggest & best(?) summer flicks have likely come and gone (email us your "Ant-Man and the Wasp" review; asking for a friend). Even so, summertime seems like a good time to highlight the stars of the succulent world. To remind us juicy plant fans that as much as we want the new, the hot talk of the garden center, there were big reasons why we fell hard for titans like Echeveria 'Lola' (that face-melting blush), Aloe variegata (pure, speckled cool), Graptopetalum paraguayense (glowing star-shaped white blooms), the unparalleled elegance of Echeveria 'Perle von Nurnberg' & the brilliantly golden spines of Echinocactus grusonii (golden barrel cactus). Not to overlook the "can't-turn-away" eccentricity of Crassula ovata 'Gollum'.

Using jade cuttings to embellish a door or wall

In this YouTube video, we show you how to use Crassula ovata (jade plant) cuttings to make a simple, spiffy succulent wreath. Periodically spritz the cuttings to keep them looking fresh. We recommend a spot that doesn't get blasted by the sun. Ours looked pretty nifty for over a month. When you're ready to switch decorative gears, the cuttings can be repurposed for pots or the garden.
