Hi ,
Everyone has a place here at Tulane! Whether you’re arriving from distant corners of the world, neighboring cities, or just around the corner, a vibrant campus community awaits you, brimming with opportunities for connection. In the June New Student Module, titled Make Way for Belonging (now open!), we’ll highlight the many ways to find your place, people, and purpose at Tulane.
You will have all month to progress through the June module at your own pace. You can find the module on your Canvas Dashboard, and will have until June 30 to complete it. If you have not completed the May module yet, please do so prior to beginning the June module in preparation for your summer advising session.

Newcomb-Tulane College | First-Year Experience Team

At Tulane, we are strengthening the core values that embody our university, support our mission, drive our decisions, and inspire us to do more and be more. These values are the dynamic heartbeat of our daily actions, championed by the Tulane community for the benefit of the global neighborhood we serve.
Tulane University Core Values: |
- Leading for a Better Tomorrow
- Knowledge for Good
- Unconventional Innovation
- Inclusive Community
- Collaborative Engagement
- Inspiring Excellence
In the June module, we will define these core values and explore how you can actively engage with each throughout your journey at Tulane.
| |
An inclusive community supports an environment of equity, diversity, compassion, respect, and opportunity. We strive to make Tulane a more supportive home for all, and we must be open-hearted and willing to learn from past mistakes to build a better tomorrow. We create living, learning, and work environments where we take active steps wherever possible to reduce inequities experienced by our community members who are underrepresented and underserved. We have a shared destiny, common humanity, and a better future that we can only reach by working together.
During your time as a student, you will have many ways to engage in conversations and trainings to help you understand how your identities impact your experiences and viewpoints and learn from the stories and experiences of others. By completing the June module, you will understand the definitions and terminology frequently used in these spaces.
To become a truly great university, Tulane must be an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community that welcomes and supports a wide array of students, faculty, and staff. Dedicated centers and offices throughout campus are committed to centering the needs of community members who are often marginalized to ensure that everyone who belongs to our community can succeed. These spaces serve as safe havens inviting you to share your experiences, celebrate your identities, explore your differences, and build affinity with your peers.

International Student Support |
If you are an international student, know that it is normal to experience a period of cultural adjustment when you first arrive. Things will feel different, and often these differences will feel very challenging. The Office of International Students and Scholars and the Center for Global Education are here to help you navigate these challenges and adapt to U.S. culture.

The Newcomb-Tulane College Reading Project is the common intellectual experience for the entering first-year class, engaging students and faculty from different backgrounds and academic interests through the reading and discussion of a selected book.

2024 Reading Project Book Selection |
The 2024 Reading Project book selection for the Class of 2028 is Platonic: How The Science of Attachment Can Help You Make—and Keep—Friends by Dr. Marisa G. Franco.
The Reading Project is a signature, and mandatory, experience during Hullabaloo Hello. Incoming students are tasked with reading the book over the summer, before they arrive on campus. During Hullabaloo Hello, you will discuss the book with a Tulane faculty member as your first intellectual conversation at Tulane. You will then have numerous opportunities to continue you engagement with the book themes through the Kylene and Brad Beers Reading Project Keynote Lecture and various other campus programming.

Do you wonder who else from your area is headed to Tulane this coming year? Well, wonder no more by attending a Hello Wave reception for incoming students and families. These in-person events allow you to connect in your hometown with past, current, and future Tulanians before heading to campus.
Many events include a Tulane representative from Student Affairs, Newcomb-Tulane College, and Alumni Relations who will be available to answer your questions as you get ready to join the Tulane family. When possible, current Tulane student leaders attend as well to answer your student life questions and more (they are certainly the experts on all-things Tulane!).
These 2-hour, casual events take place across the U.S. from mid-June through early August. Check out the complete list and register for a Hello Wave event near you. More events will be added throughout the summer, so check back later if you do not see an event near you. If you have any questions, contact Valerie Calenda at vtimmer@tulane.edu.

As a bonus, we’ll have Tulane swag to give away to help you decorate your space and show your Tulane spirit. Get to know your Tulane family in your hometown by clicking the button below. We hope to see you there!
