Do you have a garden? Do you know someone who does? YOU can be part of a program that donated nearly 10,000 pounds of fresh fruits and veggies to food pantries right here in Brown County last year!
Planting for a Purpose helps local gardeners and farmers to share the food they grow with Brown County's food pantries, shelters, and meal sites. An informational meeting will be held March 22 at the Downtown Central Library, 515 S Pine Street, Green Bay at 10 AM. At the meeting, we'll let you know how you can get involved, how your donations are used, and which produce is most useful for our local families. Pastries (for you) and free seeds (for your garden) will be available.

Tausch's Cooking Camp with FoodWIse |
With 1 in 6 children in Eastern Wisconsin dealing with food insecurity, the need for support and education has never been greater. In collaboration with Mark and Sarah Tauscher, FoodWIse is leading classes to help middle school kids learn about cooking, nutrition, food safety, and kitchen skills, hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay. Brown County FoodWIse educator Julie Raasch and Program Administrator Liliana Ramirez are providing instruction for the eight-week program.
Additional support from TDS and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin means that the kids get to take home the full ingredients for each recipe from the program, allowing them to share what they’ve learned with their families and loved ones.
This all-hands-on-deck effort was lauded by Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach, who read a proclamation about the program for National Nutrition Month, and by Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, who shared remarks at a press conference to celebrate the event.
