Warm weather and next year's LSAT dates are the big news this week! Jayhawk Pre-Law Advising is ready to support you in exploring, preparing, and applying to legal education programs. Here are the headlines that caught our attention:

Last week's LSAT panel has been rescheduled. Don't have plans tonight? Join KU Law professor Amii Castle and hear from KU students about how they studied and prepared for the LSAT. The free panel will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at 6 PM in Green Hall Room 104. All students interested or exploring law school are invited to attend. No registration is required.
The University of Kansas School of Law is hosting an information session about applying to KU Law on Wednesday, March 5 at 5:30 PM in Green Hall. (Register to Attend)
The June LSAT registration deadline is March 22. The Law School Admissions Council released Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 LSAT dates early, and these dates are now available online. (More Information Here)
Nelson Mandela Pre-Law Scholarship deadline is March 1. This scholarship honors Nelson Mandela, the renowned South African civil rights activist and political leader. His lifelong fight against apartheid and dedication to liberation continue to inspire NBLSA. (More Information Here)
Looking for LSAT studying resources and groups? Legal Hawks formed to help connect pre-law students. This student group is both an LSAT study group and resource distribution center. This spring, Legal Hawks meet every Friday at 2:30 PM in Capitol Federal Hall Room 3047. (More Information Here)

Fall & Summer Enrollment Information

Next week, you will receive information about when you can enroll in summer and fall courses. As a pre-law student at KU, you are assigned both an academic and pre-law advisor. Each advisor provides unique support to your journey at KU. Don't hesitate to reach out to your academic advisor for help enrolling in classes and questions about graduation requirements. Some questions to ask your academic advisor about during your next advising appointment include:

Are there opportunities to take classes with a professor again this semester? Taking multiple classes with the same professor can help them prepare better and more personable letters of recommendation for you when applying to law school. Try identifying a couple of professors you have enjoyed and may want to take classes with again.
Are there any writing or reading-intensive courses I can take in my major? Classes that challenge and grow your writing and reading skills are great for law school preparation. Law schools will expect you to have effective writing and reading skills before you start.
Is there any opportunity to do research like a capstone, undergraduate thesis, or directed readings? Opportunities to work on an independent research project can help practice the skills needed for law school. Projects that require you to take in a lot of information, interpret it, and communicate a well-reasoned conclusion help practice the foundational skills for legal research. Remember, law school will teach you how to research legal issues but having good communication and analytical skills will help you feel more prepared when you start.
Are there any classes in my major to help me get exposure to law? You're going to law school to learn the law, but opportunities in your undergraduate degree to get exposure to different fields of law can be helpful. These can help you stay on track for graduation and explore different opportunities after graduation and current issues in law.

Thinking About Paralegal Pathways? KPA Invites You to their March Social Event in Lawrence, KS.

The KPA (Kansas Paralegal Association) is hosting a happy hour event at Johnny Tavern's West (721 Wakarusa Drive) in Lawrence, KS, on March 7, at 5:30 PM. KPA is a great resource for students and offers a student discount on association membership. This social event is open to KU students interested in learning more about paralegal careers and networking with current professionals. Update on Drop-In Advising Hours: Starting February 2025

Starting in February 2025, Jayhawk Academic Advising will adjust its drop-in advising hours to Mondays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 4:00 PM. This change is based on student usage patterns of drop-in services and will apply to all Jayhawk Academic Advising programs, including:

Jayhawk Pre-Health Advising
Jayhawk Pre-Law Advising

Please note, there will not be drop-in pre-law advising on March 17 and 20, 2025.

Spring KU LSAT Prep Course

Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 25 through April 24, 2025, at 5:30 PM / Green Hall

The KU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is offering a spring LSAT preparation course open to all students. LSAC requires every participant in an authorized, full-length LSAT preparation class to have a subscription to LawHub Advantage. This course will be held in person on the KU campus at the KU School of Law.

KU students qualify for a $100 discount using the code KULAW2025. Students in the LEAD Program qualify for a discounted rate and may contact Chally Lytle for more information.

Beyond KU: Public Service Careers in Topeka

Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 6 PM

Explore public service career opportunities in Topeka, Kansas. Join us to hear from a panel of professionals from diverse sectors of public service. This event will be followed by light networking and snacks. This event is sponsored by the University Career Center and the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics.

Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 1 PM to 4 PM

The University's annual spring career and internship expo has been rescheduled. Employers are eager to talk to students of all levels and areas of study about their available job positions and internships. At this event, you will have the opportunity to:

This informal networking event is the perfect opportunity to connect with working professionals and KU alumni from diverse sectors of the nonprofit and public service industries. Join us to hear about their journeys from the classroom to their current careers

Pipeline Programs Across the United States

Many law schools and other organizations offers programs to help pre-law students prepare for legal education. We've collected some of these from across the country:

Harvard Law School opens applications for its Future Leaders in Law Program. This fully funded year-long program will include spending time in Cambridge, MA, receiving LSAT preparation and assistance, gain legal exposure, and meeting with dedicated mentors. All application materials must be submitted electronically by Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. (More Information Here)
The Yale Law School Launchpad Scholars Program, powered by Latham & Watkins, is now accepting applications. The program includes LSAT preparation, monthly leadership and career preparedness workshops, mentorship opportunities with Yale Law School students and Latham lawyers. The program culminates in a weeklong residential program featuring application workshops, opportunities to engage with Yale Law School faculty and alumni, and visits to legal employers. There is no cost to apply, and participants receive funding support their participation in the program. (More Information Here)
The Boston University Summer Pre-Law Academy (BU-SPLA) is a residential four-week summer program taking place from June 3 to June 27, 2025. Students will also learn about the law admissions process, receive LSAT preparation, and will be mentored while working on a personal statement, an optional statement, and a resume. There is no cost to apply to or attend the program. Travel to and from Boston, housing during the program. Participants who complete the program will receive a $1500 stipend. (More Information Here)
Florida State University is expanding its Summer for Undergraduate programs This fully-funded summer program brings pre-law students together from across the country. The program runs from May 29 - June 18, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. Applications must be submitted before March 31, 2025. (More Information Here)
The University of Houston Law Center is accepting applications for its online Scholar I (sophomore to juniors) and Scholar II (juniors and seniors) programs. These online programs will run from May through July. (More Information Here)
The KU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is offering a spring LSAT preparation course open to all students. Special discounts are available to KU students and LEAD Program students. (More Information Here)
The Minnesota Pre-Law Scholars (MPLS) is accepting applications for its online summer program. This selective program offers a select number of students a free LSAT prep class. Priority consideration will be given to students applying for the next cycle of law school applications. (More Information Here)
The Michigan State University College of Law Pathway Scholars Program (PSP) will reopen applications in Fall 2025. PSP scholars explore the wide range of work lawyers do and the impact that they have on society. You meet and build relationships with lawyers and judges from across the state and a wide variety of practice areas, and you will receive tuition, free room and board for the program's duration, and a $1,000 stipend for successful completion. February Pre-Law Tip: Think carefully about repeating a course for GPA improvement. The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) will average all final grades into a cumulative GPA reported to law schools. This is different than KU which allows, in certain circumstances, students to retake a college course and replace the original grade earned. Your KU GPA may differ from your LSAC-interpreted GPA.
