Latinas in PR: A Kaleidoscope of Experiences,
Wealth of Advice
| |
|
As far as Latinos in Communications are concerned, the stats are grim: in 2014, only 10.5% of people employed in public relations were Hispanics, even though they make up about 18% of the general population and are the second fastest-growing population segment. Last week’s #FridayForum featured Facebook Policy Communications Manager Jennifer Martinez, FleishmanHillard Vice President Sasha Quintana and Social Impact Strategist and PR with Heart© Principal Tanya Rivas. All three have one thing in common: they’re successful Latinas in an industry struggling with diversity. For a recap, read Board Member Camelia Gendreau’s excellent blog Latinas in PR: A Kaleidoscope of Experiences and a Wealth of Advice.

PR Daily Thought Leadership Series Features
Peter Shankman
| |
A recent thought leadership article in PR Daily, “What’s up with Peter Shankman? by Board Member Mar Junge, profiles a popular #FridayForum guest speaker. Shankman is training for his third Ironman competition in October in Hawaii. So far, his Team in Training has raised $49K towards their goal of $250K for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The HARO founder says it has never been easier to start your own company and get paid to create. He has this advice for PR professionals about how to survive and thrive in our stressful profession: “You have to focus on yourself first, because how can you do anything if you’re miserable, right? If you find yourself in a position where you’re not able to take care of yourself, or if the demands of your job or the people around you are not allowing you to do that, stop and think about it. If you can’t change the people around you, change the people around you. Because life is just too damn short to not enjoy.”
