Hello Spartan Nation and Happy New Year!
It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to update you on Spartan athletics. As many of you know, we are in constant year-round activity in athletics. Like many other areas of life, we live in an ever-changing, challenging athletic environment. The past year presented many new variables and challenges for our coaches and student-athletes. It is therefore important to take a moment and reflect on the great achievements and growth we have been able to experience with our student-athletes over the last few months. With continued dedication and commitment to our mission, we have been able to sustain, evolve, and thrive as a department. The entire De La Salle community should be proud of the accomplishments of 2022, both on and off the field of play.

Laps For Life is a powerful, positive event focused on changing the conversation about teenage mental health. We believe that with openness, love, and community support we can have the courage to talk about our struggles and loss and we can become healthier together. Part resource fair and part walk/run fundraiser, Laps for Life has the dual purpose of promoting mental health and preventing teen suicide. This year’s event is Saturday, February 4 at 9 a.m. at De La Salle. For more information, Contact Ms. Maile Shelley (shelleym@dlshs.org).

De La Salle High School brought cheers to the Bay Area this Holiday Season!
The Annual Toy Drive was a massive success! Thanks to the partnership of Ms. Shelley’s Service Leadership students and Mr. Eidson’s Freshman Religion classes who rallied the school, our students donated over 1,000 toys and raised $3,772. We were able to deliver toys to the Bay Area Crisis Nursery, De La Salle Academy, Running With Love, and Oakland Catholic Worker.

Campus Ministry wrapped up 2022 with the Junior Mass of Unity to celebrate our juniors and their call to be one body. During the mass, our students encircled the Hofmann Center as a symbol of that unity. Similarly, our Mass of the Immaculate Conception brought together our entire student body to conclude the year united in prayer. We also kicked off Finals Week in prayer with Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Service, including dozens of roses left at our statue, pan dulce, and Mexican hot chocolate!
