Welcome Back Faculty!

Dear Faculty: Welcome to Fall 2024! As you dive into your first week of classes, we want to make you aware of events and resources provided by the new Center for Faculty Development (CFD). As we mentioned in our last newsletter the CFD represents an expanded version of our previous Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE). Whereas the CTE was focused on promoting excellence in teaching, the CFD has a wider focus on our faculty as teacher-scholars and academic leaders. Thus, the CFD promotes comprehensive support for faculty development in three areas: teaching/learning, scholarship/creative practice, and leadership/professional development. Below you will find information about events taking place in the next two weeks. Early September Events Tues. 9/10 from 11:30-1:00pm in UHall 3030: Listening Session (in-person) As we launch the new Center for Faculty Development we want to hear what you need from us! We invite you to come share your ideas with us and to help shape the direction of the CFD. We will provide lunch from Pita House. We will also have a raffle and prizes! Even if you can only stay for part of the time please stop by! Lunch provided with RSVP by Friday, 9/6. Every first Friday of the month, get innovative insights and relevant resources from fellow instructors who are working closely with experts in the development and support community. This first session will cover Generative AI tools and resources available to LMU faculty, as well as an overview of other ITS services to help with your teaching and scholarly work. For everyone's convenience, this is a hybrid event. - To participate in-person, come to University Hall 3030. Lunch will be served. - To join via Zoom, register here.  Fri. 9/27 from 10:00am on Zoom: Integrating Generative AI into Open Education Resources The library is hosting a workshop exploring the use of generative AI tools in teaching and learning. We will explore practical use cases, engage in learning activities, and collaborate with peers to investigate AI's potential to create more interactive, personalized, and effective educational experiences in the classroom. Learn more here. Cultural Consciousness Conversations (C3) is a year-long program offered by the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This program aims to build community through dialogue around difference. C3 brings a cohort of faculty, staff, and administrators together once a month to share stories, learn from one another, examine societal norms and cultural differences, and deepen connections across all sectors of the LMU community. For more information please click here.
