Thanksgiving Holiday Hours |
During the busy holiday season practice good postal etiquette.
- Be considerate of the postal workers. They are working extra hard this time of year!
-
Be sure to check your mailbox regularly. There is limited space in each box and with the holidays, many residents will be receiving catalogs, packages and other bulk mail. If your box is full, the post office may have to return your mail to the sender.
-
Remember that if you are heading out of town, you should put your mail delivery on hold. You can do so on the USPS website by clicking here.
-
Members can also sign up for informed delivery by USPS. This allows you to see photos of your mail prior to its arrival for free! Click here for more information.
The mail notification icon is back by popular demand! Look for the small mail icon at the top right corner of the rvrma.org website to learn if the USPS mail has arrived. A red mail icon means the mail has not arrived yet and a green mail icon indicates your mail is ready to be picked up.
*Please note that the post office has been short staffed and the mail has been arriving near Ranch House closing.

Employee Spotlight: Gavin Thompson, Maintenance, Full-time
Gavin was born and raised in Denver, CO. He was looking for a change, and came to Carbondale in May 2020. He enjoys that it’s a small town, no traffic, and that people wave to one another here. He said, “That doesn’t happen in Denver, and I love it!”
Gavin is an extremely hard worker. He not only works at RVR full-time, but picks up other jobs as well. So, when he’s not working, he likes to go for walks, catches up on sleep, and just relaxes.
One surprising thing about Gavin – he is an extraordinary bowler! He shocked the RVR crew at the employee holiday gathering last year with his bowling skills. Gavin started participating in leagues and tournaments when he was 9 years old and got second place in the state when he was 12!
Gavin is close with his family. He has one younger sister, and a huge family. His dad alone has six siblings, plus a big extended family. Family get togethers are big and loud! They love to get together whenever possible to catch up on life.
Gavin grew up on, and still loves old country and bluegrass. He enjoys music in general. In June, he went to see George Strait at the Mile High Stadium in Denver with his family and a couple of friends from Carbondale.
Unusual for a Colorado native – Gavin has never once skied or snowboarded.
Gavin hunted with his dad when he was younger, usually fowl and big game.
Gavin catches on quickly to just about anything. He has become quite adept at RVR’s irrigation system. He enjoys spending his time working on irrigation at RVR. He said irrigation takes more thought and he enjoys the challenge and problem solving typically required.
Fun fact – Gavin went to school at Texas A&M for chemistry his freshman year. He loves all things science and history.
Gavin would like to stay in Carbondale and doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon. He would love to visit Europe, specifically focusing on the history tourism there.
Say “Hey!” to Gavin next time you see him around RVR.

Tom's Door Holiday Giving Program |
Tom's Door, the Family Resource Center and Carbondale Senior Housing, in conjunction with RVR, are again partnering for our 8th annual holiday gift drive for Carbondale Seniors and unaccompanied youth at local high schools to ensure a bright holiday season. Over the last seven years, we have experienced a generous outpouring of contributions. We invited you to participate again in this year's program to share the magic of the holiday season.
If you wish to get involved, visit the RVR Ranch House and choose a key from the wreath on the festive red Tom's Christmas door. Please complete the donor key tag with your contact information and place that tag in the door's mail slot. There are several gift card options including City Market, Target and Wal Mart. Our suggested donation is $50. We ask that you return the gift card's into the door's mail slot no later than Sunday, Dec.10 so that we can distribute them in a timely fashion.
Additional information about Tom's Door and the Family Resource Center is available next to the red door if you are not familiar with these wonderful organizations and the outreach and positive impact they have in our community.
If you have any questions, please contact Sidney Poncelet at 970-309-2393 or sidponcelet@gmail.com. We thank you in advance for your generosity.

Final Days for Yard Waste Disposal |
| The leaf dumpster located at the Ranch House Parking lot is still available for a limited time. We will remove it after it is filled one last time, which will likely be sometime this weekend.
*This service is offered to RVR homeowners only. We ask that you please communicate this to your contractors.

Food waste should be avoided year-round, but it seems especially wasteful during Thanksgiving when many of us overindulge and cook more food than we need. To avoid this, plan your holiday meal, make a grocery list, and shop only for what your family and guests will eat (i.e. 1 lb. of turkey per person is recommended). Coordinate with guests who want to bring food to ensure you won't have too much. Save, be creative, and eat your leftovers. Encourage your guests to bring food containers and share leftovers. Donate any extra canned or boxed goods to a food pantry. And please compost any food scraps to keep them out of the landfill. Think quality over quantity and Happy Thanksgiving.
