As the new academic year starts, we have exciting developments to report. The offices for the dean and staff of Kendall College of Arts & Sciences have moved to beautiful Tyrrell Hall, as part of a campus master plan re-organization that will bring more A&S departments around the “old U,” visually solidifying the role of arts and sciences as the foundation of the university. And the winner is ...
Last month, Alex Isaak (BA ’19) won two Heartland Emmy awards for work she did at KOTV-NewsOn6 in June 2022. She credits much of her readiness to the lessons she learned on campus. “TU’s media studies curriculum had a good mix of theoretical and practical coursework. I also served as director of TUTV on-and-off for about two years and produced/directed the organization’s first livestream for the 2018 midterm elections,” she said.

| Dutch masters
This May, students enrolled in the Dutch Art Abroad course traveled to Amsterdam to get a first-hand look at art that influences the history and culture of the Dutch capital. “You can look at a high-quality photo of a piece (of art) all day, but actually getting to experience it in person is entirely different,” said art junior Sara Moore.

A whole new world
Tulsa native Cecilia Nguyen (BS ’23) said her transfer to TU amidst the COVID-19 pandemic made it challenging to socially transition onto campus due to virtual classes and limited opportunities to meet new people. However, her involvement with the Vietnamese American Student Association changed that by giving her an opportunity to connect with fellow Vietnamese students who shared similar values and experiences.

Professor Emeritus of Anthropology Bob Pickering, the new R.M. and Ida McFarlin Dean of the Library, is overseeing major transformations in McFarlin’s physical space and digital resources that will make the library more valuable to scholars and researchers. “The beautifully appointed spaces, updated equipment and enhanced amenities will benefit every student, faculty, and staff member who walks through our doors,” he said.
