Marine Corps Marathon: The 50th annual Marine Corps Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 26. Those who are planning to come to Christ Church that morning should expect significant delays in and around the marathon course. Do allow extra time and seek alternate routes.
Pledge Sunday: Sunday, October 26 is Pledge Sunday. Each and every commitment to this year’s stewardship campaign – no matter its size – will help make God’s love visible in this place. We invite you to be part of the story. To submit a pledge, click here.
Parish “Feast”: Join us on Sunday, October 26 for Feast, a monthly brunch intended to foster connection within the Christ Church community. The gathering is held on fourth Sundays, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., in Gray Auditorium. For more information or to make a reservation, click here.
Volunteers Needed: Feast coordinators Kimberly Hill and Heather Stouffer have a simple, yet delicious menu planned for this month’s parish brunch. They are, however, in need of additional volunteers to assist in the kitchen and at the buffet. To sign up, click here.
Mission Committee Grant Applications: This year’s Mission Funding Application is now available on the parish website. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 24. If you support and/or serve a non-profit organization whose mission aligns with the mission of Christ Church, please consider submitting an application. The Mission Committee will review applications made by communicants in good standing and notify selected partners. Funding will be disbursed by year’s end. For more information, contact Father Andrew Stump.
Upcoming Funeral Liturgy: A funeral liturgy for the late Charles E. (Charlie) Rackley will take place on Tuesday, October 28, at 11:00 a.m. A funeral liturgy for the late Ingola K. Hodges will take place on Thursday, November 20, at 11:00 a.m. Your prayers and presence are requested.
Parish Necrology: All are invited to add the names of loved ones who have entered into eternal life since All Souls’ Day (November 2) 2024 to the Parish Necrology, which will be read aloud during the Solemn Requiem Eucharist on Sunday, November 2, at 5:00 p.m. To do so, write the name(s) of the deceased in the binder at the back of the Church or contact Parish Coordinator Tonika Hilliard by Tuesday, October 28.
Solemn Requiem Eucharist for All Souls’ Day: On Sunday, November 2, at 5:00 p.m., the Choir of Christ Church will sing Maurice Duruflé’s monumental Messe de Requiem, Op. 9, within the context of the liturgy. The service will include a reading of the parish necrology and feature Christ Church's new Colby/Walker organ. A reception will follow.
Georgetown Ministry Extends: This fall, Georgetown Ministry Center (GMC), a longtime parish mission partner, is once again distributing food to those in need through the GMC Extends program. Christ Church parishioners will provide meals daily, Monday through Friday, November 10–14 and November 17–21.
GMC Extends is a powerful opportunity for volunteers to live into the call to love and serve neighbors in need. If you enjoy cooking and are able to prepare and/or serve 30 meals individually or with a group of fellow parishioners, sign up here.
Setting Things in Order: Christ Church’s new series of Sunday morning mini-courses focus on discipleship as applied to relevant life topics. The next course, Setting Things in Order, will explore the difficult, but important topic of preparation for death in a way that allows for a peaceful end for ourselves and a peaceful inheritance for our loved ones. Led by the Rector and Mother Tiffany Clark, and with contributions from a hospice chaplain, a funeral director, a grief counselor, and others, each session will tackle theological and practical concerns around relationships, funerals, finances, and the life to come. The course will take place on Sundays, November 2, 9, and 16, at 10:15 a.m., in Keith Hall. To register, click here
GENERAL NOTICES
Thursday Morning Bible Study: Parishioners of all ages and stages of life are invited to a discursive, interactive study of the Book of Acts, the second in a two-volume history of Jesus and the early Jesus movement. The next gathering will take place on Thursday, October 23, at 8:00 a.m., in Keith Hall. A Zoom option is available. For more information, click here, or contact parishioners Ernest Clark, or Virginia Mentz.
Coats of Grace: This Fall, the Young Professionals of Christ Church are launching Coats of Grace, a new outreach ministry that will provide warmth and comfort to children in need. To participate, please bring new or gently-used children’s coats (sizes XS–XL), hats, gloves, and scarves to Father Nate Huddleston’s office in the Parish Hall on Sunday, October 26. For more information, contact Father Nate Huddleston.
Women’s Happy Hour at the Rectory: All women of Christ Church and their guests are invited to this monthly, drop-in gathering. This month, we will be graciously hosted by Father Tim and Lorraine Cole on Wednesday, October 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Rectory. To register, click here.
Parish Forum: The 2025-2026 series, Living Liturgy, will continue on Sunday, November 2, at 10:15 a.m., in Gray Auditorium, with a presentation by parishioner Dr. Ernest Clark: Liturgy and Scripture: Why liturgy if we already have the Bible?: The distinct roles of Scripture and liturgy, and how each informs our use of the other. For more information, click here.
Bite-sized Bible Study: Join fellow parents of nursery and Sunday School-aged children for a team-led, 30-minute exploration of the Book of Acts. The group gathers on Sundays, at 10:15 a.m., in the Memorial Room. Nursery care for infants and toddlers and  music classes for children aged 4-11 are provided during this time. For more information, contact parishioners Julia Ainsley, Megan Murton, or Matthew Fredericks.
Women’s Bible Study: What is the backstory on the “suffering servant” portrayed in Handel’s Messiah? How do we hold together God’s compassionate call to justice with God’s judgement of those who oppress others? Part lovers’ quarrel and part socio-political commentary, the book of the prophet Isaiah invites us into the complex, yet magnificent story of God and his people – past, present, and future. This Fall, join Mother Tiffany Clark and a diverse group of women for interactive discussion, in-depth examination, and personal application of sacred scripture. The next session will take place on Monday, November 3, at 6:00 p.m., in the Memorial Room. A Zoom option is available. For more information or to register, click here.
Choral Evensong: The next service of Choral Evensong will take place on Sunday, November 16, at 5:00 p.m. The liturgy will include works by David Hogan, Felix Mendelssohn, John Sanders, and Thomas Tallis. Evensong will continue on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month through May. A reception follows each service. Christ Church is one of a handful of parishes in the U.S. to offer this beautiful, quintessentially Anglican liturgy with such frequency. Do plan to join us… and bring a friend.
Thrift Shop Update: The Christ Church Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of the Parish Hall, is open on Wednesdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Thrift Shop will also be open on the fourth Sunday of each month in conjunction with the parish Feast (10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) Donations are currently being accepted on Wednesdays during the Thrift Shop's normal hours of operation or by appointment via the Parish Office.
Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $100.
Christ Church Career Connections: Since many in the DC metro area are between jobs, the clergy have revived a program which aims to connect job seekers with potential employers. If you are looking for work, we invite you to submit your resume to a confidential file. Those who are looking to hire can request access to relevant resumes. Whether you are job hunting or hiring, starting close to home might be a great option. To participate, contact the Rector.
