Harney County 2021 Fire Season Marked by Few Wildfires

While the 2021 wildfire season was predicted to start early thanks to drought conditions in Harney County, Jeff Rose, District Manager for the Bureau of Land Management in Burns, said those predictions didn’t really pan out. While fire crews stopped several wildfires from spreading with initial attack, the 2021 fire season saw fewer fires than normal.  READ MORE.

Harney County Youth Entrepreneurs

The Youth Changing the Community Collaborative is excited to share that nine Harney County high school students have started their own businesses. Through a youth entrepreneurship program they're learning the ins and outs of owning and operating a business and recently participated in a holiday bazaar to share their goods with the community.

Recently Josh Hanson, HDP's Forest & Range Ecological Coordinator and partners within the Harney County Wildfire Collaborative, Autumn Muir and Ron Whiting each had radio interviews at the local Harney County station.
Josh shared about his role supporting both the Harney County Wildfire Collaborative and the Harney County Forest Restoration Collaborative while Autumn and Ron discussed the wildfire collaborative's Stinkingwater Mountains Restoration and Fire Resilience Project.
