Dear Fenwick Students, Parents and Guardians,

This week, we have seen a significant increase in the number of positive Covid cases among our student body. Specifically, we have 14 confirmed positive cases and 7 probable cases that are getting tested. These are the cases that we know of. As a result, we have quarantined 125 students. These numbers do not include any positive cases or quarantines from last week.

We have been in frequent communication with the Oak Park Department of Health. This afternoon, the Oak Park Department of Public Health highly recommended that we do an adaptive pause and referred our situation to the Illinois Department of Public Health. After much discussion and deliberation, we feel it is in the best interest of our school community to take an adaptive pause at this time.

Beginning immediately and extending through Easter break, Fenwick High School will be on an adaptive pause. All students will be eLearning and will continue to do so through Wednesday, March 31st. The freshmen retreat that was scheduled for March 26th has been cancelled. Thursday, April 1st, will be the first day of Easter break. We plan to resume in-person instruction on Monday, April 12th. Between now and then, you can expect to receive more communication about what in-person instruction will be after spring break.

While we will not have in-person classes during this time, we will continue athletics and activities. Students should consult with their coach or moderator.

Please be safe over this holiday break. Once we return from Easter break, we have approximately seven weeks of school left. We want to finish strong. Whether or not we finish strong will be dependent in large part on whether or not we follow the guidelines set forth by the CDC.
Sincerely,

Peter Groom
Principal
