February Newsletter As we proceed into the spring semester, the Office of Student Veterans hopes that you enjoyed the recent snowy weather, and are staying safe. With spring break quickly approaching, and the weather warming up, we hope you are finding a productive rhythm to the semester.

Duke vs. UNC Watch Party
The Office of Student Veterans will be hosting a watch party for the Duke-UNC basketball game at Hi-Wire Brewing on March 8, 2025 from 1800-2130. Tables are reserved, and pizza will be provided. Please fill out this survey to RSVP so we can purchase enough food. Looking forward to seeing you in Duke Blue and cheering on the Blue Devils!

OSV Graduate AssistantshipDo you enjoy being a part of this military-affiliated community and want to help it grow and prosper? Consider applying to work for the Office of Student Veterans!
Work in cooperation with the Dean of Students Office staff to create, execute, and support programs and services for military-affiliated students enrolled at Duke University. Using the OSV's three pillars, the graduate assistant will assist fellow military-affiliated students by advocating for them university-wide, creating community-building opportunities, and connecting them to resources that can make their time at Duke a great and memorable one!
This position requires in-person hours during business hours and some nights and weekends. If you are interested, please email us with an attached resume. We look forward to hearing from you all and are excited to add another member to our team!

A2i Job Search SeriesThe Duke Career Center invites PhD's and Postdocs to the "Translating Skills Series." These workshops will focus on preparing for the job search and converting CV's into resumes.
Translating Skills- Job Search: Join us in this workshop to arm yourself with strategies for job searching! In this session, we will discuss the skills and qualities of employees from the employer’s perspective, strategies to research your potential employer, and time management in job searching. Come and have your questions answered and work through approaches as a team.
Translating Skills- CV to Resume: While a CV is usually used for applying for academic jobs, a resume is more often used for job applications in the industrial world. Converting from a CV to a Resume, or vice versa, can be complicated; this workshop will provide a framework for getting started. Learn how to translate your skills and subject matter expertise into the format(s) that align you with relevant career paths.

American Grand Strategy - Trip to the PentagonApplications are now open for the AGS Spring 2025 trip to the Pentagon in Washington, DC!
Participants will have a chance to meet with officials at the Department of Defense, tour the Pentagon, and interact with Duke alumni.
The group will depart on the afternoon of Thursday, April 10 and return during the evening on Friday, April 11. All applicants are expected to be available during the full duration of the trip and to actively participate in all meetings and events.
AGS will cover ground transport, lodging (including breakfast), dinner on Thursday, and lunch on Friday. Any additional meals or personal incidentals are at the individual’s expense.
Students are encouraged to apply regardless of program of study, year, or prior involvement with AGS. Please note that this opportunity is only open to US citizens and permanent residents.
The deadline for applications is February 28, 2025.

To help support this transition, the Office of Off-Campus and Community Life and Student Affairs have introduced a dedicated resource designed to help students thrive in the Durham community. This new platform erves as a one-stop shop for all things related to off-campus living.
- Map-based housing search with a variety of tools, including filters for proximity to campus, price ange, shared housing versus entire units, lease type, pet policy, parking options, neighborhoods, and a comprehensive list of amenities.
- Detailed property listings featuring photos, floor plans, virtual tours, contact information, a commute planning tool, and more.
Valuable insights on tenant rights and responsibilities. - Local resources to help you settle into life in Durham, including guidance on getting around town, iscovering local activities, accessing community information, setting up utilities, and staying connected on campus.
- Roommate finder tool, where students can create profiles and connect with fellow Blue Devils based on ocial and lifestyle habits, housing timelines/preferences, graduation year, program, and more.
- Sublet listing feature, allowing students, faculty, and staff to create and post a property listing at no cost.

Duke National College Health Assessment
To better understand and support the health and wellness of Duke students, DuWell and the Student Affairs Office of Assessment are collaborating to administer the National College Health Assessment (NCHA), a survey developed by the American College Health Association (ACHA). This initiative is crucial in shaping resources and programs that foster student well-being. The survey will be distributed to a select group of students on February 10. If you are randomly selected to participate, you will see the following subject line in your email inboxes: “Shape Your Duke Experience: Complete the National College Health Assessment & Win Duke Merch!” More information about DuWell and the ways their office promotes wellness, manage stress, and reduce anxiety can be found at their website: https://students.duke.edu/wellness/duwell. Duke Community Standards Involvement Opportunities
The Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards (OSCCS) is now accepting applications for Conduct Board (CB) panelists and Honor Council members for the 2025-2026 academic year! These roles are essential to maintaining integrity and accountability within our university community, and we encourage you to consider applying here. Applications close on March 12, 2025.
More information about each role:
As a Conduct Board (CB) Panelist, you’ll be part of a group of students, staff, and faculty who review cases involving potential violations of university policies. Your role will be to examine critical information, determine whether a violation occurred based on a preponderance of evidence, and help decide appropriate outcomes.
CB panelists will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from OSCCS. CB panelists will learn about the conduct process and help guide students through their various proceedings involving academic dishonesty and other policy concerns.
Honor Council Members are student leaders who promote the Duke Community Standard through policy initiatives, outreach, and community engagement. Students will have the opportunity to:
- Oragnize Monthly Events
- Provide feedback on University Policies
- Engage with both the Duke and Durham communities

OSCCS is looking for open-minded undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who care about accountability and want to play a meaningful role in upholding the Duke Community Standard. Focus Forward Fellowship Opportunity
We are sharing information about the Focus Forward Fellowship on behalf of the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University. The Fellowship is a professional development and networking program designed to help women student veterans and active-duty service members excel on their home campuses and in their civilian careers. Fellows will have access to women veteran speakers, distinguished faculty, and corporate mentors to develop career skills and identify strategies and resources that increase connections and success. Focus Forward is designed for women student veterans and service members to build professional skills and create a sense of community with their peers. 2025 Fellowship dates:
- June 17 - 20, 2025 Virtual Cohort
- July 15 - 18, 2025 Campus Cohort, Purdue University West Lafayette, IN
This program is funded by foundations and donors; if selected, there is no cost to the students or the college for travel, housing, food, or program materials.
