Membership
The best way to enjoy everything the gardens at UBC have to offer is through a membership, which includes admission to both UBC Botanical Garden and Nitobe Memorial Garden. Membership is an investment in your community and a valuable way of supporting the future of the gardens.
We've just revamped our membership program and have great new benefits to offer. Visit our website for more details.

About the Garden
Established in 1916, UBC Botanical Garden curates a collection of ca. 12,000 plants, representing approximately 8,000 taxa from temperate regions around the world.

Volunteers Needed!
UBC Botanical Garden is seeking volunteers to lead 60-minute drop-in tours throughout the summer and fall. Guides play a vital role in our mission by bringing the collection to life through engaging educational interactions with garden visitors. For this role, we are seeking people who are passionate about ecology and botany, eager to share their knowledge with others and interested in learning more about the plant world and biodiversity.
Shop in the Garden
The Shop in the Garden is the source for great plants, books, tools, garden-themed housewares and gifts for locals and visitors. Our freezer is full of frozen treats for hot days.
Cloudwalker,  a retelling of the Northwest Coast legend of how the rivers were created, is a recent, stunning addition to our children's books. The second in a series, preceded by Raven Brings the Light, it is again vividly illustrated by the woodblock prints of Roy Henry Vickers.
The Garden Centre has a broad selection of fine plants available, many on sale as we head into summer. We carry SeaSoil and statuary to sustain and compliment your garden.
To keep up to date as new products come in to the shop between the Garden's monthly email newsletters you can sign up to receive periodic email from the shop by clicking here. You can also follow us on social media:  twitterfacebook and instagram Our username on all three of these social networks is "ubcgarden" - follow us for the latest!.
July in the Garden
Visiting the Botanical Garden in July is often a singular pleasure. When the temperatures finally rise to something resembling summer heat, the forested paths of the David C. Lam Asian Garden and BC Rainforest Garden beckon visitors to enjoy a cool respite from the sun. It's easy to while away the hours sitting on a bench by the pond in the Rainforest Garden watching the antics of a wide variety of birds and dragonflies. In the shade of the Asian Garden, cranesbills (Geranium), astilbes (Astilbe), meadow rues (Thalictrum) meadowsweets (Filipendula) and lilies (Lilium) fill gaps between rhododendrons, deciduous trees and tall conifers. Rhododendrons are seldom thought of as summer bloomers, but the Garden has a number of July-flowering species, including the iconic R. auriculatum, with its long leaves, auriculate (ear-like) leaf bases, and sticky, fabulously sweetly-scented, white or pink trumpet-like flowers that emerge in late July.  Somewhat earlier is another Chinese species, the equally impressive R. glanduliferum, with its wintergreen-scented flowers.
