Good Evening:
IRW apologizes for missing last Thursday's issue. Your editor traveled out of state for business, and IRW will extend your free subscription by one extra issue.
One of our readers e-mailed me with a question about WNTS (1590am, Beech Grove) when it aired a religious format. If you worked there during that time, or know someone who did, please drop me an e-mail.
From the Reading Pile: The TV Ad industry agrees it’s ready for an overhaul, according to new survey.
From the Reading Pile: How is college radio faring in the streaming era?

In a few weeks, Quincy Broadcasting's NBC affiliate WPTA-TV (Channel 21.2, Fort Wayne) ("Fort Wayne's NBC") will welcome meteorologist Jon Wilson. Mr. Wilson will be a weekend meteorologist. Most recently, Mr. Wilson served as a meteorologist for KEVN in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Northwest
Today, Lee Shaw joins as Operations Director for Purdue University's WBAA(AM)/W290CM (920am, West Lafayette; 105.9fm, Lafayette) and WBAA-FM (101.3fm; West Lafayette). Mr. Shaw has experience in both television: Heartland Media's CBS affiliate/WLFI-TV (Channel 18, Lafayette) and radio: Lafayette Schools’ WJEF (91.9fm, Lafayette).
Eastcentral
Brewer Broadcasting's Country/WQLK (96.1fm, Richmond) debuts a new morning show: "The KICKS Morning Crew with Reyn and Sean" began last Monday. The show airs weekday mornings from 5am until 10am. Jeff "Reyn" Reynolds and Sean Lamb co-host the show.
Mr. Reynolds started his broadcasting career at WMDH over in New Castle, and most recently worked for WKXC ("Kicks 99") in Augusta, Georgia. Sean Lamb grew up in Wayne County, and became a musician, but he's new to radio.
The new morning show succeeds Josh Michaels and Kaysie Chase, who both joined Federated Media's Country/WQHK (105.1fm, Huntertown) for mornings.
Central
The Bob & Tom Show promotes GM John Kesler to COO. Mr. Kesler takes this newly created position after joining B&T in March 2016. Before that, Mr. Kesler enjoyed a long career across town with Emmis Communications.
In a press release, Tom Griswold, Co-Host of The BOB & TOM Show, said: "John Kesler is the perfect guy for this job. He knows the ins and outs of the world of media sales, and he knows how to deal with the chaotic world of radio personalities. He is all about forward motion in the fast moving and quickly changing radio landscape. Most importantly, John knows what he doesn't know... meaning that he's quick to consult with people who know what they're talking about in the multi-layered digital cosmos of contemporary media. He's also a wonderful person, and our staff hasn't tried to kick him out of our building... yet."
We remember an Indianapolis engineer who also worked in Richmond. Dave Gill died on June 26 at age 66. After graduating high school, Mr. Gill served in the United States Air Force, and later earned his Associates Degree in Electrical Services from Ivy Tech. Mr. Gill was an accomplished radio engineer and worked throughout central Indiana, including WXLW (950am, Indianapolis), WHON (930am, Richmond), WKBV (1490am, Richmond), WFMG (101.3fm, Richmond), WQLK (96.1fm, Richmond), WZZY (98.3fm, Winchester) and Emmis/Indianapolis. He also sold for Allied Broadcast Equipment. Funeral services were held last Friday. Here's the complete obituary.
