Dear Denisonian‚
The beginning of summer, Pride month, Juneteenth, Father’s Day … June is my favorite month, as it marks the end of dreary winter and rainy spring and rings in the summer sun and fun!
Things have been busy on The Hill and for alumni! Denison is coming off an unprecedented Reunion Weekend that combined multiple years into one big joyous gathering. We just celebrated the Class of 2020 with a special Commencement and Second-Year Reunion as events in 2020 were postponed due to the pandemic. And we welcomed the Class of 2022 to the Society of the Alumni following their Commencement last month.
Meanwhile, earlier this spring, the Alumni Council helped organize DU Good Day, Denison’s first-ever global day of service for alumni. Nearly 240 alumni from around the world signed up to participate in service projects to “DU” good in their communities, and I look forward to watching these numbers grow in years to come!
Looking forward, alumni have several exciting opportunities on the horizon, kicking off with “summer soirées” in Wisconsin and Michigan. And before you know it, the ReMix entrepreneur summit will be here September 21-23, followed by Big Red Weekend September 30-October 2.
On a personal note, June also marks the end of my term on the Alumni Council. Every time I return to campus, I am struck by how the university evolves and thrives and find myself envious of the students experiencing Denison for the first time. When I shared my feelings with another alum, my friend reminded me that while we were students for only four years, we are Denisonians for the rest of our lives.
For all of us who fondly remember our time at Denison, please continue to engage as alumni and know that your status as a Denisonian did not end when you received your diploma — in many ways, it only just began.
It’s been a pleasure serving as your Alumni Council President.
