Clin-STAR Research Interest Groups

Clin-STAR Biology of Aging Research Interest Group In Formation
Co-chairs: Heidi J. Zapata, MD, PhDJason Roh, MD, MHS, and Mina S. Sedrak, MD, MS

The goal of the Biology of Aging research interest group is to provide a forum within the Clin-STAR community to discuss and focus on biological mechanisms that contribute to aging and age-associated diseases. These include the Hallmarks of Aging (inflammation, genomic instability, cellular senescence, etc), as well as other unidentified cellular and molecular mechanisms. The group is open to all who are interested in discussing and learning more about the Biology of Aging. We hope that this forum will lead to collaborations that will ultimately advance research in the fields of Aging Biology and Translational Geroscience.

If interested, please contact andrea@afar.org

This virtual seminar will cover strategies to enhance inclusion and create a culture of equity as well as methods to assess culture change within the scientific workforce at academic institutions.
The 31st Annual Summer Training Course provides intense exposure to current concepts in experimental aging research to approximately 20 research scientists to facilitate development of independent research programs in the basic biology of aging. The deadline to apply is July 8, 2024.

The Research Centers Collaborative Network

The Research Centers Collaborative Network (RCCN) aims to initiate new cross-disciplinary collaborative networks that bring together key thought leaders from each of the seven NIA center programs. RCCN facillitates and supports colloaboration through a series of activities and resources, including:
  • Workshops that convene researchers from all center programs to discuss a common theme in aging research
  • Pilot Awards for projects involving at least two NIA-sponsored research centers
  • Travel Awards for RCCN Workshops
  • Publications based on RCCN Workshop proceedings
  • Webinars from RCCN, center programs, and partner networks in aging research
