In Case You Missed It

COVID-19 Boosters Now Available

Appointments for Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine boosters are now available for all students and campus and Health employees at two drive-up locations. Booster vaccines will be available at the Price Center for students and campus employees beginning Nov. 15. The CDC has authorized a mix-and-match approach, so you can select which brand of booster vaccine you want while scheduling your appointment.

New Guidance for Visitors

Visitors to the campus must follow UC San Diego safety guidelines, which vary depending on their affiliation. New information is now available for guests attending a campus event or athletic competition, invited academic guests, contractors, service providers and others. In addition, find out which campus affiliates are subject to the UC vaccine mandate on the Compliance webpage.

Enjoy a Mindful Pause

Campus employees are invited to join Mindful Pause, a mindfulness meditation group that meets monthly to learn practical approaches to mindfulness that we can use in our daily lives. Sessions are led by Faculty Staff Assistance Program’s Bryan McNutt, Ph.D. and include guided meditation exercises to help nurture more emotional calm, focus and presence. The next session will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 17.

Veterans Day Closures

Please be aware that the Price Center Testing and Vaccination Clinic will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. Also, there will only be one pick-up scheduled for all campus COVID-19 test kit vending machines on Nov. 11.

Your Questions Answered

Question: Can I receive a different brand of COVID-19 booster than my original doses?
Answer: Yes, the CDC has authorized a mix-and-match approach, so you can select which brand of booster vaccine you want while scheduling your appointment. Currently, UC San Diego Health is offering all approved boosters, including Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
Question: Is COVID-19 booster vaccination required by the UC mandate?
Answer: No. Currently, the University of California vaccine mandate does not require the COVID-19 vaccine booster (third shot) as part of being compliant with the mandate.
Question: Do I need to get a flu vaccine if I work remotely?
Answer: No. You are not required to get a flu vaccine if you solely work remotely, but it is highly encouraged. However, if your job requires you to go to a UC San Diego worksite for any reason or duration, you must first meet the requirements of the executive order by documenting you have received a flu vaccine or are declining to receive the flu vaccine (in which case you will need to mask for the duration of the flu season).
To make a flu vaccination appointment on campus, students should go to MyStudentChart, and employees can visit flu.ucsd.edu. More information can be found on the University of California FAQ website
